Here's a press release:

America's Most Beloved Psychic and Spiritual Teacher, Sylvia Browne, Offers Readers Intimate No-Holds-Barred Memoir - PSYCHIC: My Life in Two Worlds
Press release
Posted on 05/18/10 at 3:05am

At the age of seventy-three, New York Times bestselling author Sylvia Browne is ready to tell the whole story of her extraordinary life. In PSYCHIC, we meet the woman behind the public figure: from the child receiving her first visits from the spirit world to the teenager doubting her own sanity; from the new mother living through staggering highs and lowslows to the burgeoning celebrity, and, ultimately the successful, happily married woman she is today.

(PRWEB) May 18, 2010 -- Sylvia Browne is the author of twenty two New York Times bestselling books, including the #1 bestsellers Life on the Other Side and The Other Side and Back. She has been at the forefront of America's obsession with the supernatural, and was one of the first psychics to share her gift openly with the public. Her visions have offered insights into celebrities, aided police investigations, and changed the lives of thousands of people both through her standing-room only events across the country and her many media and television appearances—including one (as herself) on The Young and The Restless.
...
In addition, Browne also reveals:

• The prominent people whose lives her visions have saved
• The times her beloved late grandmother appeared to Sylvia during crisis; once even saving her life
• Why some spirits materialize when others are called
• Why more paranormal activity occurs during lightening storms
• Her beliefs about the afterlife (if there is such a thing as damnation or hell)
• That our purpose in life is to "Do good, love God, then shut up and go Home"
...

You can read some of it online at HarperCollins.com. I wonder if this book contradicts her other books with her different origins stories, education, and claims of success on Montel?

I wonder, too. And since her staff follow this site VERY closely, maybe she made sure to tell her ghost writer to keep everything consistent. :)

But I'm certainly not going to buy it and give her a single cent. Well, we'll find out how well it does soon enough, I suppose.

Sorry, I misread that. I thought the title was "My Life in Two Words". I immediately thought of a few appropriate pairs, like "unscrupulous huckster", "flagrant fraud", and my personal favourite, "bull cookies". :)

I read through some of it. There is one whopper of a falsehood that jumps out at me. Maybe there will be more.

(Begin rant)

Around pg. 122, Sylvia is yammering on about how she loved Angels all her life, didn't we all, and Francine had given her all this information on Angels (with a capital A) so that by the time Nirvana Foundation was started (1970s?) she couldn't wait to share all she knew! Including the sad fact that humans can never be angels, according to Francine.

Yeah, right.

Here's the real story. In the 1980s everybody else supposedly had it wrong, as usual. Francine set us all straight: What other people ignorantly called angels were actually archetypes, androgenous beings, all blond, on whom you could call for help. Angels did NOT have wings. That was just silly (group eye-roll here). There were no heirarchies of angels. There were spirit guides (which Browne carefully explains are NOT angels in her book on angels 20 years later), and all of us mission life entities (you know you're a mission life entity if you are wise enough to have adopted Sylvia Browne's philosophy), and well pretty much everyone after they died, except dark entities.

Just for fun, here is a brief summary of what Sylvia Browne was so eager to share, per the Novus Spiritus catechism, back in the 1980s in response to the question "Do Angels Exist?"

Yes, there are several types of angels. First is the spirit guide, which we all have. Second is the archetype, which comes to us in times of need. Third are the mission entities which travel the universe to do God's work. The gist of all this is that everybody is an angel, the only difference is that while incarnate we cannot act in the capacity of an angel.

I DID find it revealing when Browne mentioned that 75% of Americans believe in angels.

That's a lot of potential book buyers. So, there are angels! And they have wings, and heirarchies, the details of which are enough to fill a whole book 20 years later. Ka ching!

Surely no one will remember what Francine said 30 years ago!

(End of rant)

Great rant! I loved it!

But about 75% of Americans - I don't know. I hope not. But Sylvia says a LOT of things, such as 87% or whatever of her own accuracy. LOL

And Francine herself surely must have forgotten that she registered here. She's never come back. Don't ya miss her Ex-Min? Gee, I do. :) But, seriously, "she" could have said some potentially interesting and useful things.

Yep, I miss her too. She was great. :(

(BTW, for anyone who might be wondering what we're talking about, "Francine" posted here for a brief time back in January, posing as Browne's spirit guide. She shared a lot of interesting information about Browne. And had a great sense of humor, too.)

As far as the 75%, you're right - it's probably a good rule of thumb not to put a lot of weight on anything found in a Sylvia Browne book!

Sorry EX! You have always came across as a very nice lady.

BUT!

As compared to reality that so called "real" story the entire paragraph is far more silly and far out than any story I could read in my beloved Silver Surfer comics!

Mission life entities? Dark entities? Spirit guides? Wings? It's all comic book fantasy. Great fun to read and dream about but to actually base ones life on it in reality seems so hopelessly foolish.

Isn't life grand enough without all that fake silly mumbo jumbo thrown in?

But I guess there are so many people out there who need their kool - aid poisoned and get quite upset if they get left out of the party.

I will never understand it!

Brattus, I don't think ExMinister was saying that what she wrote was true, only that it was the real story behind what Browne had originally claimed about angels. But I could be mistaken.

I know, Brattus. You're right. It is silly. Sad even, considering how many people are going to buy this ridiculous book and believe all the nonsense, not even realizing that it's a whole bunch of new nonsense given by a supposed spirit guide who spouted a whole bunch of contradictory nonsense 20-30 years ago.

And oh absolutely, I agree with you - life is grand enough without all that silliness - grander even!

Can someone explain who Francine is?

Francine = Sylvia Browne's (imaginary) spirit guide. She claims that Francine talks in her ear and is able to speak through her when she goes into a hypnotic trance. Sylvia Browne used to hold trance classes 20-30 years ago, where she would pretend to go into a trance and Francine would speak through her, imparting knowledge from the other side.

BTW, Francine contradicts herself as often Sylvia Browne does, maybe even more. I have many of the old trance tapes to prove it.

For an explanation about Francine, the person who posted here back in January with information about Sylvia Browne and son Chris, see my post above.

Brattus, I don't think ExMinister was saying that what she wrote was true, only that it was the real story behind what Browne had originally claimed about angels. But I could be mistaken.

This is right.

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't trust a word Sylvia Browne said to me, truth be told.

And I no longer believe in the paranormal, though I suppose I could still be open to it if some amazing sort of proof came along. I don't know.

I just feel compelled to point out Browne's ridiculous contradictions sometimes.

I misread it as that as well, and the first two words popping up was "Shameless Q'nt", if you pardon my Klingon.

Yes, she loves to come across as "real" because she points out the "silly" such as the real nature of angels. I even remember her blathering on about Jesus couldn't have been a Christian because "he couldn't follow himself, now could he?" Well, duh!!! But when she says things like that, people believe her because she comes off as someone with common sense and then they listen when she tells it "like it really is." Plus, she DID once have a great sense of humour and was charismatic.

Not nearly so much, anymore. But at one time she was a charismatic and funny speaker. She made people feel like they could identify with her. That's really all it takes to begin to get more and more people to listen.

Hell, I fell for it once. Thankfully I broke free, just as Ex-Minister has. But there are still more who can be helped. And they can be, I have no doubt. Maybe not everyone, but more.

I consider Sylvia Browne to be a disgusting Vampire (Metaphor) who feeds off the misery and despair of the grieving. She ruthlesly exploits, abuses etc, people for gain. She is simply dispicable and evil.

No, Francine posted in this thread as recently as October! I think he/she keeps an eye on Sylvia-related threads, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a Francine post in this one! I know! Let's all close our eyes and say " I do believe in spirit guides" and maybe he/she will appear!

"I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do..."

I have been wanting to address the lies in this book one by one, but I just can't find the time. It has so many that it would take me two more lifetimes.
