My SSI gets deposited directly into my bank account. On the day of my birth, the 7th. And that is the norm, the bank info was a requirement to the sign up. The way I knew I was accepted was to check my balance, and find four months of SSI deposited.

So I don't know how many are waiting for checks in the mail, or even the consideration that the SS Admin won't have money for stamps.
