Sun to nuke the earth within a few years

So what's the actual science behind the OP? Does it have any validity?
Kinda vague question....

A monster storm did hit - the Carrington event so that's observation.
Carrying that forward to "projected damage" is not a great feat.

At highest risk are transformers, many of which were damaged by a lesser storm already.
Each of these transformers takes 2 years to replace and no one makes them in North America and they are key to the grid.
There was an in depth look at the damage in an article I'll try and source.

Prediction?? There is a high degree of luck involved - there could be numerous massive storms none of which eject plasma that hits the earth.

it's not only the storm frequency and severity but also the odds of the ejection being timed and directional to hit the earth..a rather small target given the volume of space encompassed by earth orbit.

So like living along the gulf coast - an active hurricane season ( as this year is predicted to be ) only means a higher risk....your area may dodge entirely unlike poor Cuba which managed to be in the path of FOUR Cat 4 storms :crowded: :(

But IF and when a solar event happens on a Carrington scale again that hits the earth- it won't be pretty.

God damn jref I expect you to debunk things like this not add credence to them!

I better get digging.

Well I never. Its as if all the people here that have tried to convince me that solar physics and the standard model are nearly beyond repute were talking out of their rear ends all this time.

The amount of times I've heard solar astronomers say "this was completely unexpected by current models" about solar/terresitrial events clearly shows this to be a ludicrous position.

Don't make me list them, theres at least 10 I can think of off the top of my head without even searching the plasma cosmology thread :p

What a stupid thing to say.

Nobody argues that, just that we know for certain that the Sun is a fusion powered phenomenon and that its held together by gravity.

But it is the hallmark of cranks to look at each and every admission of incomplete knowledge by science as some sort of sick vindication of the crap they have filled their heads with.

The sun is going to produce "fiery explosions having the power of 100 hydrogen bombs" ?

Are they all the same size now? Or are 100 hydrogen bombs the same as one really big hydrogen bomb? Or maybe 10,000 little ones?
