Suicide Bomber hides his bomb.. INSIDE his body

Yes. Did you see the report? He managed to get right next to this prince despite being searched. It's also reported that he got through metal detectors.

Yes, I saw the report. And it doesn't say he got through metal detectors or that he's been searched. It says something like "some say he wasn't searched others that he passed through several layers of security".

No mention of metal detectors until some expert starts speculating about implications on airport security.

I've dropped some bombs before that were actually manufactured inside my body...

In the video the suicide bomber holds up the device. It's about the size of a small hand grenade. There is no mention of how he got the device in his body.

It looks like they may be using a glass case instead of a metal case for the bomb, which probably wouldn't trigger metal detectors. If the power source and control circuitry are also engineered to avoid detection, this could be worrisome.

The "inside the body" vs "outside the body" distinction doesn't seem important to me, since so much can be hidden under clothes anyway.

The distinction may not be important if a person wanted to blow up a pizza joint. It becomes much more important if the target employs higher levels of security such as airports, government buildings, military bases, etc.

A few years ago, my dad pointed out how bad it would be if the al-Qaeda thought of placing bombs inside terrorists, since that would be near-impossible to detect. I thought it would probably happen, but hoped it would take a very long time for it to occur to them.

Oh well, at least it was a couple of years...

Wouldn't a higher level of security mean that it basically doesn't matter whether the bomb is inside or outside?

Tens of thousands of people go through airport security with artificial knees and hips, which set off metal detectors.

Yeah, so is it a yes or no?
It means in a higher security situation there's a definite advantage to hiding it inside the body, and explained away as an artificial joint after setting off a metal detector.

Yeah, but how many people have the guts for it?

:boxedin:

AFAIK after the "big" metal detector goes off, they scan you with the small hand-held one... That could pinpoint the location within a few centimeters, right? If so, good luck to the guy going for the artificial joint excuse somewhere in the torso (I'm guessing that's the only place with enough spare room for an inside bomb) ;)

I think these guys already have ticking timebombs inside their body. It's in their brains.
