(It's a close call - this nearly went into the humour section)

On Pharyngula's blog I found reference to this science-fest for creationists. A wonderful list of suggested questions to stimulate students to devise experiments that will help affirm their faith in God Almighty.
You couldn't make them up, and no, it's not a parody.

Highlights:
8. How much voltage or current can a human take before he is killed? Could do experiments on a plant.
11. Make an experiment to show how Boyle's law applies to nebula.
18. Is intelligence influenced by physical attributes. i.e. are blondes "dumb" or does skin color influence intelligence?
19. Can a dog run a maze faster than a gerbil?
28. What makes an animal wild?
35. Why does the Bible say there is one glory of the sun, one glory of the moon, and one glory of the stars?
46. Where are teeth stored?
53. Were all the animals friendly to man before the Flood? Idea: raise several baby animals like snake and mouse together to see if they remain friends as they are older.
66. What color is our brain?
67. What is the fastest speed something can go?
68. Why is a dogs nose wet?
72. What is God made of?
83. Why do people believe in Evolution?
84. What events caused them to become evolutionists?
101.If there were aliens, why would they visit humans?
102.Why do we have pimples? Did God goof?
114. What shape is outer space?
I nearly didn't make it past No 8. I could suggest quite a few experimental subjects for any creationists wishing to know how much electricity we can take before we die.

Those are about one third non-experimentable, one third hilarious, and one third sick and twisted.

I do wonder if a dog would beat a gerbil though...

What the heck is #46 "Where are teeth stored?" all about?

53. Were all the animals friendly to man before the Flood? Idea: raise several baby animals like snake and mouse together to see if they remain friends as they are older.

Actualy that appears to kinda work with cats and rodents.

69. Why do cats always land on there feet when they fall? Do other animals do this?

Oh, yes! I'd love to do this one!

Up on the school roof:

Cat #1... Yep.
Cat #2... Yep.
Cat #3... Ow! Ow, dammit! Aah, my spleen!
Cats 4-10: This part of experiment abandoned due to OH&S regulations.

Cockroach... Did anyone see where it went? Anyone?
Pigeon... Hmm. Guess that counts as a no.
Cow... Eww.

Huh? Say what? God is made of God-stuff, obviously.

God is a Black Hole. Of course, this theory is closely related to the Big Crunch theory which of course is now not believed because of the mysterious Dark Energy, an anti-gravity force that is supposed to explain how the universe keeps expanding. Heavy, man. ;)

I note the person(s) who devised this list, based on number 8, is not real familiar with electricity or safety. Volts don't kill, amps do and a kid should NOT be playing with the real low amount of amps that can kill. Perhaps this is a sideways attempt at birth control in the xtian community (get the ones smart enough to question stuff).

Before they grow in- are they stored in your jaw somewhere?
No no, they're kept in a special magic box in the tooth fairy castle until they are ready for delivery.

As for whether a dog can chase a maze faster than a gerbil, it depends which one you release first. What makes an animal wild? Well, being chased through a maze by a dog for starters.

These experiments are a bit tough on prey species.

And how do you boil a nebula? Think of the size of the bunsen burner.

It says clearly on the site that:

"This is a list of questions kids have asked in our brain storming sessions for science fair topics. These are the raw questions as I have not had time to clean them up or rephrase them in a statement for a hypothesis."

So this isn't a list of some adult's ideas of what kids could do for science projects. It is an unedited list of things that kids have suggested. It seems like a poor idea to post the list unedited on his website as if it had some use. But non-creationist little kids would come up with equally ridiculous ideas, out of ignorance or silliness or because they are just saying any old thing that crosses their minds.

Flume is correct. I think we should take the list of unedited questions much more seriously.

Paul is absolutely right! (uh, we should? Am i being mocked?)

Here's some food for thought from their June bulletin ( I hope it is okay to copy this):
http://www.tccsa.tc/bulletins/2007/200706.pdf

"Have you considered the wood tick?
I m sure you have had your fill of these little
critters by now. Yet, ticks are master chemists.
The tick has amazing saliva which includes an
anesthetic. This anesthetic allows the tick to attach
and sip our blood without us noticing it. Normally
blood clots when a wound happens; however, the
tick s saliva is able to disable this clotting
mechanism, thereby it receives a continual flow of
this delicious meal. Could random natural
processes have produced this? No, our Master
Designer created this amazing saliva. So, the next
time you get a tick on you
stop and consider God s wonders. Job 37:14"

(This fits well with question 80 on the list: "Why did God make pests like bugs and mosquitoes?")

Questions I'd like answered:

Are we humans also animals? Why or why not?

________________________________________

Are we part of the animal kingdom?

Do other mammals have hair, teeth, skin, hearts, etc.?

What parts do we have in our physiology that are suited for an omnivorous diet? What other mammals have these same characteristics?

What other organs do we have in common with other animals?

What makes a herbivore, like a cow, so very different? Explain their teeth and digestive tract. What can they digest that we cannot? How do they digest what we cannot?

Etc.

No, our Master

time you get a tick on you
stop and consider God's wonders. Job 37:14
Then jump around and panic as you realize something has burrowed into your skin and is draining your precious bodily fluids.

Gads, I hate ticks.
