Well, after months of trying to decide where to focus now that "Kaz" seems to have stoped, I've finally decided it will be Sylvia Browne.

To that end, I have registered the domain www.StopSylviaBrowne.com.

There is nothing there at present but an into page.

She has always been at or near the top of the list of people I was considering, but the video of her trying to convince that woman that her boyfriend - a fireman who died on 9/11 - had somewhow drowned... that pushed her over the top.

So, I am just now starting the digging. My goal is to make this site comprehensive investigation of the woman and her claims. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Also, if any of you have copies of her books which you no longer need, I will buy them off of you at a reasonable price. I want to read them all, but want to put as little cash into her coffers by doing so as possible.

As the site grows, I will post notices here.

Sylvia Browne is a much bigger public figure than Kaz, with at least some air of "legitimacy," at least insofar as she's managed to get herself taken seriously by some members of the mainstream media. Tread very carefully in criticizing her, lest you invite a defamation lawsuit.

I really admire what you are doing...however, have you consulted a lawyer about the ramifications associated with specific content? It may be prudent to spend some money on that ahead of time. I, and I would assume other forum members would be willing to contribute to the fund.

The first thing you can do is stick to what others have published...any blunders that have been in mainstream press can be collated into the website.

Well, I'm a lawyer, so let me give this a shot:

You can say anything true.

You're commenting on matters of public interest, so you can probably say a lot of other things as well.

And she's a public figure which opens the door wider.

I would feel perfectly comfortable saying things like: she was wrong, she should have known she was wrong, she is contradicting another statement she made, she is not communicating with any spirit, she has no psychic powers.

I would probably shy away from using words that assign a motive: She is lying, she is deceitful, she is a crook, she is a criminal, etc.

But, would I outline the anti-psychic statutes in each state and offer to help anyone who wishes to make a complaint to the police? Yup.

Consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction for more targeted advice. Also, you owe me four hundred dollars.

jazzalta, if you bothered to stick around long enough to read this, I will definitely be interested in criticism of the site once it is up. If you don't think the content of the site is fair and factual, I would want to hear that.

I appreciate the warning. I intend for the site to have nothing but factual content. Although that does not in and of itself prevent a lawsuit (nothing can), it is, in America, the best defense against libel/slander suits.
