• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

StopSylvia email: (no subject)

Not sure, maybe, and no. And thanks for asking, by the way.

Again, thanks.

respectfully snipped

AHEM! I do recall my husband the computer geek offering to help you with the issues. He's still available. Cuz we're so far away from each other, ya know. Seriously, if he can help, give us a shout. :D

That is a REAL mug shot

You know, I honestly feel sorry for Chris. It's obvious how much he hates it. He's terrible at it, even worse than Sylvia was- and that's saying a lot!

Why didn't he get a real job many, many years ago? Why doesn't he get one now?

I wonder if he really hates it. Maybe so. Sylvia always said she hated it too.

I don't think he even had a high school diploma, iirc. And his mom had latched onto him tightly. She once told me she thought of him as her soul mate. Who knows why he stayed... Insecurity, mom, the lifestyle, money, fame.

I stayed on at jobs I hated because they paid well (though a bit less than Chris' $450 per 20 minutes). Once you start making good money, your expenses tend to rise to meet your income, and you canfind yourself trapped in the "golden handcuffs" very easily.

It is also my understanding that Chris could not even read until he was around 30 years old, so... what kind of a decent job would he qualify for with that kind of a track record?

He could write a tell-all book about mommy dearist. Or, more accurately, he could tell his story to a ghost writer. That would keep him in lucre for a while. After that, however...

I think there could be a good career for him with a book exposing his mother's scam, and then going onto the lecture circuit exposing the inner workings of Sylvia's empire. However, as far as I can tell, he does not have the intellect to lecture to normal human beings.

If he wrote a tell-all book about his mother, he would, whether explicitly or implicitly, be admitting culpability himself, thus opening himself up to lawsuits from everyone he had ever charged for a "reading".

Yes Robert, but I would suggest that almost none of the people who had been charged for a reading would be intellectually or financially capable of filing a lawsuit, and those who did, and were succesful, would most likely be awarded a piddling sum compared to the money that DuFresne could make with a book or books and the lecture circuit and TV appearances.

If I was his agent, I'd be encouraging this path as being more lucrative than his pitiful attempts at psychic scammery will be, as he is so bad at it, that his mommy's loyal fanbase will soon become disgruntled and move on to a different psychic to spend their money on.

ETA: Also, it seems that money is his primary motivation, so if someone was to show him that he stood to make a lot more money from exposing his mother, and if he really is the despicable character that some people have said he is, surely he'd go for it? That would be a massive win for us. I think we should give him some friendly encouragement.

While I am sure it is too much for Robert to take on, it is a shame we don't have a catch all STOP 'PSYCHICS' site.

There are so many to go after. We used to have Bad Psychics here in the U.K. (and despite some criticism of the guy who ran the site) it was at least an effort to go after the whole industry.

Am still hoping that one day we will see a case brought under Consumer Protection legislation. Specifically here in the U.K. we have provision to act against traders who take advantage of the average or vulnerable consumer, which seems ready made to shut down at least the higher profile fraudsters.

It's primarily an FTP issue. I got your PM, thanks.
Sadly, FTP doesn't coexist well with the modern internet. HTTP will happily traverse firewalls and NAT routers and proxies, but FTP often falls over at the first hurdle. The first sign that things are finally properly secured is that FTP stops working...

I got a call from an old client over the summer - their 386 running a Gopher server was unreliable and they were hoping I could get it stable again. The answer was 'No, it's 2013.'
