I received the following email, with the subject "Coming to my senses about Sylvia Browne":

Hello,

I wanted to make some comments about the website www.stopsylvia.com. I recently discovered it by accident. I heard that she passed away and I googled her name to see the details of her passing. When I came across the website, I was thinking somebody out there had nothing better to do and was finding someone to pick on. Since new-age gurus can be criticized more easily due to their non-conventional ideas, why not pick on Sylvia Browne? She is well-known and lots of waves can be created by criticizing her. I have some of her books and have seen her at a couple of speaking engagements in 2007. One was in Las Vegas and the other in Washington D.C. While she is on stage, she spends half the time talking about angels, spirit guides the other side, Mother God, Father God, and anything else supernatural and then the other half going off on a tangent about general trials and tribulations in life. I sometimes wondered if I was watching a comedy show. I've never had any personal encounters with her but have heard answers to questions from selected audience members. My number was never called so I never had a chance to ask her a question. I've never heard her give any outrageous answers to the audience members. After all, I only attended two of her shows. She did not come across as a warm person and has gotten a little impatient at times but I thought it was because she was a "tell it like it is" person who can't allow herself to become too emotionally attached which could possibly interfere with her readings. After reading the many
e-mails posted to the website and watching videos of her on the Montel show, I saw her true colors and got past the tip of the iceberg.

It was astonishing to see her demeanor after giving the most outrageous responses to audience members asking questions on the Montel show. It was quite embarrassing to watch and it amazed me how somebody could be so nonchalant, callous, and dismissive to people who put all their faith in her. What surprised me even more was the way Montel acted by joking about Sylvia's answers and would hurry on to the next person when things got too uncomfortable. It was obvious that the jokes were not funny to the audience members after getting their responses. It adds insult to injury for people who are desperate, hurting, and want answers. I can understand why www.stopsylvia.com was established and that it was for a greater good than just exercising free speech about somebody's views you don't agree with or like. By reading the e-mails from people who had sessions with Sylvia or her son and seeing those videos, the repercussions go far beyond the studio, auditorium, or phone session. Thank you for bravely coming up with this website and making people aware of her scheme. You probably saved many people's time, money, sanity, and perhaps some people's lives. If your website is still running and you would like to post this, feel free. I would like to remain anonymous. I hope your health is better and that you are doing well.

I have yet to respond.

Happy birthday, Robert! It must be nice to get messages like this one and know that you have accomplished something worthwhile; you'll never get the diehards, but getting the fence-sitters off the fence must make the birthdays happier.

Let me second this (birthday wishes included).

As always Robert, it's good to hear again that your site has had another positive effect. Your updates and info will always be a welcome read to me.

May the hill rise behind you and may the mountain be always over the crest.

Slàinte mhòr agad!

Thanks, both of you!

But be careful of writing off the diehards...

If some of my emails are to be believed, the site HAS "gotten" more than a few diehards!

We even have here on the forum some former diehard Browne believers (such as ExMinister) who, whether because of my site or otherwise, are now firmly NON-Believers in Browne's purported abilities (even when she was still alive).

And, the site has gotten some Diehards up on the fence, from which they did further research and ended up on the "right side" of the fence!

So, don't ever get into the fatalistic "you'll never get the diehards" frame of mind regarding promoting ANY Skeptical point of view. Had I thought that way, I might never have bothered to create StopSylvia OR StopKaz!

Thanks, Reno!

Happy Birthday!

Thanks!

Might I suggest that TragicMonkey write your reply? HAHA!

Or perhaps Brattus? :D

Either way, too late! Although I'm sure that theirs would have been far more interesting. here's mine:

Thanks so much for your email!

I am glad to know that the site played a part in your "coming to your senses" about Browne, and that you reconsidered your first thoughts about my site as well. I definitely did NOT start it just to pick on someone because I disagreed with them.

As for my health, I remain in a wheelchair, but recent improvements have me hoping/planning to be walking unassisted (no cane or walker) by the end of 2014.

Thanks again for writing, and take care,

Robert S. Lancaster

A perfect reply, as always, Robair.

Belated congratulations, also on the improvements!

Though I always enjoy reading the updates on your site, some letters just seem to stand out a bit from the others. This is one. What a great birthday present.

Robert:

You can always keep your present web site and add another. There seem to be a few new "up and coming" psychic mediums around. None seem quite as arrogant as the crop of psychics now in their 60's and 70's --- but a few are just as deceptive in connecting themselves and their missing person work to law enforcement agencies.

Keep well and stay mindful that you have done solid work.

I came to the forum by chance from a link in a piece on uri gellar in my msn feed. I can't say I was a great believer in psychics, but I can't say I disbelieved either. This place educated me, and your site was the place I lived for a week. I never looked back. So thanks. And Happy Birthday.

Happy belated birthday, Robert! I'm so glad that your site continues to help many people come to their own conclusions about Sylvia Browne and Kaz.

I'm also overjoyed that you have good reason to believe you'll be walking about unassisted by the end of this year! Woo hoo! That's great news, indeed. I remember reading your thread about that and am so happy for you and Susan about this.

Keep up the good work and the positive attitude. You rock!
