StopSylvia.com - another nice email

I have a great abundance of super thick Hungarian hair. Grew it myself, for the most part.

Well, in a way my question still stands. I realize she's a thieving manipulative cold-reader, but there are so many of those out there trying to make a buck off of naïve and / or stupid people. My questions was what Sylvia Browne had done to deserve the extra personal attention, and the answer seems to be that her level of downright greedy nastiness warrants it. :D

Regards,

[EDIT: Inserted a little smiley to lighten the mood a little.]

Discrediting Sylvia would also discredit the tons of other psychics out there using the same techniques. If you show how her methods are fraudulent you're wise on the fraudulent procedures that others could use.

Here is the "What the Bleep Do We Know" segment that talks about the Indians and the ships, for anyone who is interested:

Sigh. Psychology, history and metaphysics are already so fascinating, without having to create weird urban legends like that about them.

Isn't the real story of what people think and how they behave when confronted with something they find absolutely amazing and totally foreign to their minds so much better and so much worthier of study?

The link isn't loading for me right now - I'm at work. But I think I know the section you're talking about. That sort of thing often ends up like the poor retelling of a story by someone who only half understands what they were told.

To fill in the gaps where the facts and figures should go people often end up chucking something surprising in there, to make it an interesting tale. Otherwise it's just be a story with missing info.

If someone is telling a story and they don't get the gasp of, "Oh my, that's amazing!" then they'll often embellish to get the desired effect. Give it more punch! Less truth though. The storyteller doesn't care.

RSLancaster:

Which books are you missing? I'd be quite happy to track them down and purchase (using my own funds) those missing from your collection. I live in Salem, MA (a virtual Mecca of woo) and I guarantee that I'll be able to find them.

If Caution can find them in a second hand book store then that wouldn't result in any additional funds for Sylvia though, it'd just be supporting the local business that resells it. That'd be a reasonable way to do it, no?

While I can imagine people who've seen the light would find it too offensive to sell it to a book store, since it'd help to spread her treachery, I reckon hunger for the almighty dollar would result in a few being available that way.

That's pretty much what I had in mind. There are more than a couple of used woo bookshops in my area.

Yeah, I thought that might be your plan. Seemed you were being warned off probably without them giving that consideration.

Better yet, look at garage sales. It is not uncommon to find stacks of them there.

Well/ as I say on my site's Support page:

Donate Unwanted Sylvia Browne Books
As part of research for the site, I am currently trying to obtain a copy of each of Sylvia Browne's books, and intend to write articles about individual books where appropriate.

If you have any Sylvia Browne books you no longer want (and which are not already crossed off the list below), and which you would like to donate to the site, contact me (via any of the means on the site's Contact Page) to make sure I still need the book. At that point, we can make arrangements for you to send the book(s), and for me to reimburse you for postage if you wish.

Note: Please do not purchase any of these books for purposes of donating them to this site, unless you buy them second-hand. I am not interested in putting any more money into Sylvia's pockets if I can help it. (All Sylvia books I have so far have been obtained through purchasing used copies, or have been donated).

Actually, Early on in the life of the site I went to several used book stores looking for Browne titles. I was told by clerks in several used book stores that they frequently got them in, but they were usually bought almost immediately.

I got several distasteful stares from clerks when I asked if they had any Sylvia Browne books in stock.

I thought about saying that they were only for skeptical research, but figured they would think it the equivalent of "I just read Playboy for the articles."

Ew... awful though. I can't imagine the pages in Sylvia's books stuck together.
