'Statins' - nothing but slow poison?

Here's the way I look at it:

My dad died at 55 of heart disease. For the sake of argument, let's say both sides are right: Statins reduce the risk of death but cause mental impairments. So let's say my dad had been able to get on a statin and it helped him live another 10 years. But in those 10 years he had muscle aches, falls, cognitive impairments, etc.

I'll take the extra 10 years with my dad, thank you very much.

I don't see anything there that says, prevents lypolysis.

My mistake. Two of them in fact. Should be spelled lipolysis, and it isn't the statins that inhibit it, it is the gemfibrozil and clofibrate. So, same arguement holds for me, different drug. I'll have to put those on the 'don't take them because of MY myopathy' list.

An OT aside: Did you know that the large intestine and colon actually feed themselves with short chain and free fatty acids directly from the chime? Perhaps the meds cause intestinal upsets by denying the linings that source of energy? One major source is bacteria that do break down fiber into those short chains. Hence the benefits of fiber for the colon. And pro-biotics too.
