States refusing to accept Syrian refugees

The Jews and "Palestinians" (which term didn't exists not that long ago), are essentially the same people genetically speaking. Go figure.

During my times in Israel, it was interesting how difficult it could be differentiating tanned Ashkenazim from Arab Palestinians.

This is supposed to be about Syrian refugees in the USA, I think. It's in the news. The GOP thinks they are the greatest threat since Ebola (remember that one?). But nobody here seems inclined to discuss the issue even though it might very well lead to our next imbecilic threat of a government shutdown.

Crickets?

I'm no expert on genealogy, but I do think that Ashkenazi has nothing to do with skin tan nor with recent relatives in the middle east, for what that is worth to DNA.
Where did I say that tan skin has anything to do with Ashkenazim, or that Ashkenazim have recent relatives in the ME?

I expanded my thoughts with the following which will also appear on social media. I expect Republicans to ask for my deportation now.

Nothing comes without risk. Trying to avoid all risk leads to a pretty crappy world. Helping people does come with some risks but my personal view is that we should take those risks. Thus I say we let all the refugees in that are willing to make that journey. We should accept that a tiny proportion of these haggard and desperate people will have ill intentions and deal with them as they do whatever terrible thing they attempt. Or, even better, win them over by demonstrating our compassion. But I'm willing to trade some terrorist attacks on my own soil for allowing so many innocent people a way out of a truly horrible situation. Maybe I'm more confident in my society to deal with and endure some terrorism than so many others.

America is vast nation with more money than any other nation. We absolutely could purpose that potential into doing something that, while risky and not immediately beneficial, is the right thing to do.

Doing the right thing often comes with some risk. I've opened my home to people in desperate situations many times. Sometimes they rob me. Sometimes they become good friends after they have righted themselves. People often ask me why I would continue to do this when not knowing the outcome. I answer: because it is the right thing to do. And it is. Regardless of what happens.

I get that many have latched onto this to further their own agendas and sowed fear to accomplish their goals. But understand that the refugees are more like us than different. We are all people. We all have dreams. We all want security and stability. We all want to see our children grow and prosper. We want that. They want that. We have the ability within our grasp to help this happen for both. If we choose to not do this then we should not pretend we are doing this to protect us from a nebulous boogeyman. We should acknowledge that we are doing it because we either just don't care or we are too blinded by hate to see that their outstretched hands are asking for help and not grasping a trigger for a bomb.

I know some will say I hate America for having this view. But it is because I believe we have an ability to do good that I feel this way. I think this nation and its people are stronger than the malevolent aims of any tiny proportion of the Syrian diaspora.

If you agree then speak up or see hate and fear supplant good will and hope.

I truly hope that that is a parody post.

You do realize a large reason for the war is because of US foreign policy? Not only indirectly through the invasion of Iraq (which triggered the Iraq civil war, the rise of ISIS, and the migration of millions from Iraq into Syria), but also directly by supporting anti-Assad rebel groups (many of which were Sunni Saud-supported and had ties with ISIS) with the specific intent of regime change. I agree though we shouldn't really be meddling in that war, but we are, along with a dozen other countries besides Syrian factions.

These people are just refugees from a warzone and we already take in many refugees (although they are only a small part of total immigration). I really see no reason not to take some of them in. I'm actually for a much more strict immigration policy in the united stated, but refugees will have little impact on the total numbers or the economy. The security concerns just seem like political demagoguery to me.

I agree with a lot of what you said. Yes, good Old Unca Sam has caused a whole lot of **** in this world. WWII seems like it was the last righteous war this country will ever fight. Things became political with the Korean War then to the Viet Namn war, and the beat goes on until right now with the current crIsis.

I'm a G.D.I.(GodDamned Independent) and I've voted for both sides, but when Georgie Jr. went into Iraq I was stunnedd. I rightly predicted that it would be Viet Namn in the desert. Even though I think Obama is either incompetent, or diabolical, but I don't blame him for withdrawing from Iraq because this country had war fatigue and wanted us out. It created a vacuum of power, the bad guys jumped in and here we are today. Jr. caused it.

Nevertheless, there is no reason for us to open our doors. Other countries in that region should have taken them in. Charity starts at home. We have illegal border crossing crisis, no need to put more logs on the fire, especially in light of France, Bali and who knows whose next. It's a noble philosophy, but these are not noble times.

I take chances when I help people. You can call it stupid and refuse to help others if you so choose.

I belong to a very old fraternal lodge in Seattle and their coffers are stuffed. The philosophy is 'Charity Starts at Home'. I can go to a business meeting with some sort of charitable idea, lay it out like a business proposal and most of the time get money to help the local community. What happened to that concept? This country has gotten itself into the roles of the world's policemen and the worlds charitable organization.:(

You self appointed yourselves the police.

And European countries are taking hundreds of thousands

Pretty much this. Although the rest of the world is apparently happy to let us take the lead so they can have someone to blame when things go wrong. Like the police; we're often damned if we do, damned if we don't, when it comes to certain actions, which include leading the call to help other countries in crisis.

Correct.

Let's see, there are some 2 million refugees in the region, and counting (not to mention those coming via North Africa).

Even hundreds of thousands to Europe and a tiny token to the USA still won't make a dent in the total picture.

Then think a few more years, or decades into the future for a region that has nothing but failed societies.

Not a pretty picture with any "Trump" solutions but one thing should be clear to anyone and that is that resettling the middle east or Africa in the EU is not a solution to anything.

These people deserve our help for sure, and that should include giving them the possibility to go back home and rebuild their countries.

This is the bit a lot of people don't seem to get. Most didn't want to have to leave and want to go back when safe
