State of the Union

Mentions of our awesome workforce
Mentions of our continued support of Israel
Mentions of how "strong" our nation is
Mentions of how a need of sacrifice is essential to move forward

Awesome workforce, like 24 percent out of work,
Support of Israel, like moral support, that's it.
How strong our nation is: The weakest econ recovery in history, China now number one in trade
Need of Sacrifice to move forward -- meaning even more taxes for those who even pay taxes,

Personally, I couldn't watch for lack of Dramamine. For me, it was a TV choice between "Citizen Kane," Non-Citizen Obama or Hard Core Pawn. I choose to watch the Detroit low lifes in Hard Core Pawn.

Wow, how did you come to chose that number? Please show us your extensive research and support for your $90 proposal.

The proposed rise to $9 from something like $7+ is extremely modest, but will probably not be implemented. Fox News was ranting about it straight away. Keeping people at the bottom of the pile impoverished is apparently good public policy for some....

Good intentions ≠ Good results.

I've started a thread on the econ forum about $9/h minimum wage. Let's see if that sticks.

PS. I'm very pro on the $9/h thing.

In the real world, this will ensure even fewer teens especially POCs can get jobs making their stay on entitlements and 'voting democrat' even more certain.

Keeping people at the bottom of the pile and in the middle class impoverished is apparently good public policy.

I got the same impression, but then the Republicans always seem to reply to some fictitious version of The State of the Union.

I want to see the White House (any administration) "leak" a completely fictional version of the state of the union and see how insane the responses are.

"We strongly disagree with the President's call to sterilize all members of the opposing party! We also think that puppy kicking should not be made into our official national sport."

Or, maybe better, release a fictional one that essentially agrees with the opposing party's entire platform just to see what happens.

Whatever anybody's politics, people surely can't deny that Obama is a high quality orator.

I deny it. I think his oratory is rather overrated. He doesn't even come close to speakers like Kurt Vonnegut, Christopher Hitchens, or George Carlin.

Well, it sure beats the heck out of listening to Dubya arm wrestle with the English language. :D

I quit listening to what politicians say 50 years ago, I'm more interested in what they do,...and don't do.

Agreed, but let's be fair. The Dems did just about the same thing when they responed to a Bush SOTU.
Fact is the SOTU is just a political wish list, and the response is no better. The Opposition is going to present it's "Talking Points" regardless of what is in the SOTU.

Mention of 70,000 bridges that are below standards. And mention of everything below ground in N.Y. city is rotting away. Then mention of the amount of money it's going to take to fix this mess!

What he should have said but didn't. American style of capitalism is going to get all of it's chickens coming home at the same time.

And comparisons of how European countries are building new modern infrastructure to keep up with the times.

Don't get too cocky when you think you can laugh at the former Soviet Union!

Maybe my memory is fuzzy but I don't remember the Dems saying Bush had talked about things in his SOTU that he explicitly had not said.

"And while Bush may have said we need to douse the nation's puppies in acid we remain the pro-puppy party."

A call to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour.

Bloody socialist....

Seriously, bring it on. A very good idea.

People are having a hard enough time finding work as it is. I vote no.

No...

In a shocking display of deep self-absorption and narcissistic behavior, President Barack Obama stood up in front of the entire nation Tuesday and talked for more than an hour straight, sources confirmed.

Appearing before a crowd of several hundred people, whom he had apparently required to attend and sit silently as he spoke, the egocentric president reportedly talked nonstop from roughly 9 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. Eastern time, giving his opinion on whatever topics he felt like discussing. Apparently unwilling to concern himself with any beliefs other than his own, Obama selfishly spoke without interruption, never once allowing another person to get a word in edgewise or offer a differing viewpoint.

If $9 an hour is good, wouldn't $90 an hour be better???

No. Why would you think that? If a glass of wine is healthy, would 10 glasses of wine be healthier?

The fact that $90 an hour for minimum wage is absurd does not argue in the slightest against Obama's proposal for $9/hr.

Claims that ObamaCare will reduce the cost of health care.

It certainly will for many people. It really does make health care affordable for millions of people who couldn't afford it previously.

And for everyone, it sets limits on how much the insurance companies can charge in premiums relative to the amount they pay out in claims.
