Stardust vs. Riviera: an objective analysis

Riviera: Rooms are comfortable, Iron and board available in room, good net access.

Stardust: Some rooms appear to be open to the elements. Difficult to gain access to the site.

Sorry, wasn't there last year. :)
 
Ottle, there were some instructions at the login on how to get onto a VPN. Check with the biz center tomorrow. Or not . . .

Yeah, I noticed them this morning when I was trying to buy another 24 hours. I decided I don't care all that much though :) I have a blackberry which is enough of a tether to work...
 
My room smelled vaguely of asses. Luckily, I spent almost no time in it.

I thought the Riv was better in almost all respects. Well, except the fact that it was bigger, so it took longer to get anywhere.

Although, since I spent very little time looking at the carpets, I guess I can't comment on that important aspect.
 
Well, the Riviera had WHORES in the casino, watery martinis, surly yelling waitresses on their cell in the bar and generally poor service.

But the room was ok.
 
Slightly off topic as I'm complaining about almost every casino I walked in to: What do you have to do to find a good beer in Vegas? Didn't find one bar at the Riv that had a drinkable beer. New York, New York had a bar with a couple of good beers but most every place I went in to you were lucky if you could find anything as good as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
 
The Peppermill had a good belgian style ale from CA called Fat Tire. I know that's not a bar but I ate there twice. At least there was good beer at the forum party.
 
Re: the carpets

I was walking to the Royale Pavillion with Jerry Andrus and his friend John when Jerry suddenly stopped and said "I've got the carpet here" as he waved his hand at about chest level. Jerry liked the carpet.

And yet surprisingly, te actual casino area was not as big as that of the Stardust, and it didn't have any good meeting areas.

As for the rooms, having stayed in the fancy rooms in the Monte Carlo tower, and then spending the last night in the Monaco tower, I have to say that the details are really what make the MC-rooms fancier. Apart from being larger, they also had real glass glasses instead of plastic cups, the bathroom was tiled instead of having a pre-moulded fiberglass shower module and it had a heat lamp in the ceiling. Even the hallways were nicer, and the elevators.

Compared to the Stardust? Well, it wasn't as good for hanging out as the Stardust was, and there, security never kicked us out either.

Other than that, it was neither the best nor the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, which means, meh, good enough. I didn't go for the hotel.
