Right here!
I think Randi should sell Spoonbending kits and at a cut-rate price.

I'd pay $19.95 to learn how to bend spoons. Imagine the fun at parties! Demonstrate my "psychic" power and what the woos gather. Then explain to them it's all a trick.

I know magicians aren't supposed to reveal their secrets, but I think this might be one for the greater good. Not only educational but could also raise funds for JREF.

You could sell them with full disclosure of how it is NOT pyschic in any way.

I'm so curious as to what her "instructions" were, I was tempted to get one. I can only imagine, "Hold bowl of spoon firmly between thumb and forefinger of one hand, hold handle of spoon firmly between thumb and forefinger of your other hand, apply pressure until bowl starts to move towards handle."

Anybody actually have her instructions and care to share?

I wonder how many spoons I could buy with $50.00. It has to be an even number because I'll have to bend half of them before I sell them...

TARGET dept stores has this little area out front that sells things for $1. It changes all the time.

Once they had a bunch of $1 magic tricks. I got a bunch of "psychic forks" for my Nova Land get together. You basically got a fork, with a hinge. Jeff Wagg can do it really well. I mean, it looks really good when he does it.

For $1, you can get a really good magic trick, that will certainly impress your friends.

Is that how Randi does it? (Or Geller for that matter)

What I was thinking of is if the we could get enough people trained to do this one trick, we could get people to show up at every Geller public appearance and do "his" trick.

I know, not likely, but one has to dream.

Check your local Goodwill or Salvation Army or other secondhand store. I picked up a bucketfull of spoons for spoonbending demos (all I need for several more years of teaching!) for next to nothing.

And no, Spindrift, neither Randi nor Geller use hinged spoons. Near as I can tell (wink, wink), they both do it the old fashioned way. They cheat.

(that doesn't give anything away, does it?) :D

it's easy to cheat when bending spoons.

really easy.

Mind you with the preschoolers I just say, "wow is that a giraffe on the playground?"

I've never seen a hinged spoon or fork, it was pretty funny as it is so BIG a hinge.

Can you believe the spoonbending chick who is selling the kits to raise money doesn't want the $1M prize? :boggled:

Thanks for your generous offer, Mr Randi, but I must respectfully decline your prize. Your idea would not actually serve as any such "SHORTCUT" for me because my journey is to empower the world with truth, not 'make a million dollars'. The spoonbending kits offer individuals a 'direct experience' with their own true nature and all proceeds support our TOTALLY free audio archive located online at www.newsforthesoul.com/moreshows1.htm.

I love it when I hear people say they don't want money when they are trying to sell you something.

Well, you're in luck. "The Truth About Uri Geller" by James Randi $25.00 explains it. Its a good starting point, and interesting back story. Ordering it through the JREF means Randi will sign it for you (if requested).

Honestly, I think a "kit for $19.95" would be a rip off even if such a kit contained a silver spoon. Its not a hard trick; to reproduce Geller's trick is insanely simple. It just takes practice.

After getting a "kit" for that price, people might feel cheated by the JREF, which is no good for anyone.

Hinge? I've yet to see it done that way. The little set up I've bought was to bend spoons (it explained the obvious method) and keys. The key method includes a "little something" if you're not near a flat/hard surface.

I bend spoons with my mind. I just use my mind to send a signal to my fingers.

Too good to take 1$ million

If a fake psychic says she's too good, or something, to take a million dollars, maybe Mr. Randi could offer to give the million to a charity, like one that feeds starving refugees. Let her explain that while she can bend spoons, she won't do it to help the desperate.

:D

I've got a good technique that requires no special gimmick. Free. Gratis. I showed it to a friend's nine-year-old and he was amazed. He bugged and bugged for me to tell him how it was done, but I wouldn't. Finally he asked me if I could bend it back. I'd never tried that, but I improv'ed it on the spot! It worked really, really well.

That's probably a half-funny joke. :D
Unfortunately it's still pseudoscience.

I don't know about half funny. I thought it was fully funny the first time I heard it, now that I've heard it a few times I still think its more than half funny (but certainly less than fully funny).

But why is it still pseudoscience?
