Considering that UPS batteries don't ever get "turned on" unless there's a power outage, and that the thermite idea is just so intensely stupid it hurts just thinking about it...I'd say the author has never EVER worked in IT or around electrical equipment more powerful than the Energizer Bunny.

But aren't UPS backups always on standby at least? Why else use a UPS?

Anyone remember the magic self consuming thermite cutter charges from the 80's Richie pined about which turned out to not really be a cutter charge (even though his expert Tommy Sullivan said they existed) so he backpeddled to a thermite cutter charge that wasn't self consuming and didn't exist until 1999? Ahhh the good ole days.

See that packet of AAA batteries you keep in the drawer for the TV remote control? Well, they are an "on standby UPS" for the remote (granted, the switch-over time is a tad extended, but whatever). Do you think those batteries are "turned on" while they wait for the current ones to die?

I doubt that there were separate batteries. More likely they were whole UPS units. Something like this: http://www.techsouq.com/images/SU1500i.jpg

The witness said they were never switched on. Which means that there probably were some LEDs on the boxes indicating when they were on. And I doubt that the bank used an entire floor as a storage place for unused UPS units.

Explain, in your own words, the distinction between "on standby" and "switched off" as it relates to a battery.

When you've finished, watch the Trinity Church video showing the initiation of collapse of the South Tower, and try to understand why sane people can see that thermite had nothing to do with it.

Otherwise the witness would hardly have talked about them never being switched on.

Having actually read the article, I see that Bollyn claims his source said the units were installed "during the summer prior to 9/11". That could mean any time up to as little as a couple of weeks before the attack. I would imagine that the installation of a large UPS would involve a fair amount of re-wiring, because large amounts of power would need to be re-routed through the UPS switching systems, and I doubt whether it would make any sense to do this before all the UPS units were in place. So, a reasonable explanation might be that the re-wiring was still in progress, and that there was no point in switching the units on until it was completed.

Going a little further, one might expect that the work was being carried out over the weekends, and that some interruptions to power might be expected above the 81st floor of WTC2 while it was going on. That would tally with the Scott Forbes power-down story, which - when boiled down to the bits that are actually supported by evidence - indicates that Fiduciary Trust, occupying floors from 90 upwards, was warned of potential power outages over a 36 hour period at the weekend.

Pure speculation, of course, but it's a reasonable, non-conspiratorial explanation that appears to agree with all the evidence, rather than an insane fantasy that disagrees with most of it.

If there was thermite used on floor 81, then the FBI may have investigated it, at least indirectly, and asked Fuji Bank about what they had on floor 81. And the bank managers may say that they indeed had just installed a huge UPS system on that floor, although I find that a bit suspicious. But probably the bank can show the invoices etc for the UPS system, so that the bank cannot be prosecuted legally if it would come to that.

Or it wasn't thermite at all & the OP is a fantasy desperately clawing for consideration due to the thermite claim being near impossible.
 
My theory is, I have written about it in several other threads but could be worth repeating here, that they only needed to rig one floor in each tower with thermite in order to make sure that the collapse would start on those floors. The collapses of the entire towers were caused by large explosives under the basements of the towers. See for example this video called 911 Eyewitness from about 15:50: http://www.videonger.com/watch/1847/

The large amount of explosives under the basements emulated a strong enough earthquake to make the towers start to collapse. The towers were designed to collapse like they did straight down for safety reasons in the case of a severe earthquake. The alternative would have been to design them to risk falling sideways like dominoes into Manhattan. Not good.
