South Sudan

Both Sudan and South Sudan have a problem that is not political in nature:Mother Nature had not been kind to either country when it comes to Natural Resources, which leads to a chronic problem with having viable economies.

Maya, are you getting the idea that nobody really gives a hoot about that little war?

Closer to the truth is that there isn't anything to say about it. Add a hook about western powers taking advantage of indigenous people of Africa and everyone will come in with an opinion.

Given how West Germany and Japan turned out, after Western military occupation and martial law, I sometimes really struggle to understand why the UN doesn't propose the same solution for the problems plaguing places like this in Africa today.

On the other hand, if we really are all agreed that we don't want America to do for Sudan what it did for Japan, then can we all also agree that the Sudanese are getting exactly the society that they value most, and that they so richly deserve?

Only quoting Germany and Japan seems to give the US a 100% success rate. What about throwing Iraq into the mix? Or South Vietnam - a thoroughly corrupt place nobody would lift a finger for once the US left. Or South Korea - now a democracy, but for decades an autocratic dictatorship under Syngman Rhee. I could go on...

Gee, I am so sorry we bothered, mein freund.
Tell me again why there are still thousands of Americans in Germany. Can't you people take care of yourselves? What are you so afraid of that you still need Americans on your soil?

Tell me. Really. I'd like to know.

A lot of german want them gone. If only to make sure there is no more "atomwaffen" on their land.

How droll.
When I lived in Germany in the 70's, there were anti American protests.
Americans still there.
When I was in NATO in the 90's, there was some sentiment to take the fall of the wall to invite the Americans to leave, to go home, to GTFO, what have you.

From my PoV, as an American, I was all for bringing the troops home.

They are still there in ample numbers (of course, nowhere near as many as in 1988 ...)

So, why can't you all do as the Philippines did in 1991. Invite the Americans to leave.

What's stopping that political process from moving forward?
Care to share?
