South Park to attack Scientology...yet again

Apparently Family Guy has been accused of plagiarism by people within the industry along the lines of
Peter Griffin=Homer Simpson

Homer Simpson = Fred Flintstone = Ralph Kramden = the model for most sitcom familes

Oooh, and Family Guy has a wise-cracking kid! Unimaginative bastards.

Apparently Family Guy has been accused of plagiarism by people within the industry along the lines of
Peter Griffin=Homer Simpson
Baby Stewie=Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth
etc.
If I may, I will quote "The Simpsons" episode "The Day the Violence Died"

Myers: Okay, maybe my dad did steal Itchy, but so what? Animation is
built on plagiarism!
[lawyer slaps his forehead]
If it weren't for someone plagiarizing the Honeymooners, we
wouldn't have the Flintstones. If someone hadn't ripped off Sgt.
Bilko, they'd be no Top Cat. Huckleberry Hound, Chief Wiggum,
Yogi Bear? Hah! Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney.

Myers: Your honor, you take away our right to steal ideas, where are
they gonna come from? Her? [points at Marge]
Marge: Uh... Hmm... How about... Ghostmutt?[FONT=verdana, geneva, lucida,'lucida grande',arial,helvetica,sans-serif]
It's hard to accuse anyone in that industry of plagiarism.

And heck, even South Park guys themselves acknowled this in the episode titled "Simpsons did it" where they say essentially agree that Simpsons did everything since they were on the air so long it would be impossible NOT to copy them some way.

Also, and I realize being over the top is the point of the show, but most 8-9 year olds don't swear incessantly, battle Mecha-Striesand and glibly deal with the death of the same close friend every week with a simple "You bastards!".

Sorry if a quibble over the correct age for a big wheel doesn't resonate. :)

"My God, do you guys realize? This is only the second time we've ever been in outer space." ~ Stan, 7.01 Cancelled

Okay, so maybe they don't like Family Guy, but still I don't think they ripped on it. I mean, maybe they agreed with Cartman and disagreed with Kyle but I don't think it is obvious they dislike Family Guy just from watching the episode.

BTW, I'm not a Family Guy fan particularly. I've seen it a couple times and a few things made me laugh but I don't make a point of watching it and only stop on it maybe 1/4th the time I stumble on it while switching channels.

I think one good thing about SP is that it sometimes pokes fun without making the target look totally, completely bad. I mean, even bad guys have redeeming qualities sometimes. Take the Vote or Die / PETA episode for example...PETA folks were depicted as ridiculous people overall and yet one of them delivered the wise moral at the end. It reminds me of Archie Bunker a bit...Archie was a bad guy in many ways but they made it such that you were sympathetic to him at times.

I don't think they were busting on Family Guy. Cartman hated it but Kyle liked it and Tivo-ed every episode. It seems like like just a vehicle for the story about showing Muhammad IMO.

I didn't even catch the analogy about Comedy Central pulling the Scientology episode but now that you point it out, yeah, it was there. I thought it was just about depicting Muhammad and the related protests. I liked the part where they had al-Zawhahri talking about Family Guy. And the bit where they had Muhammad's entire body blacked out was good too.

I'll be interested to see if they actually show Muhammad's image next week. After all, that is what the protests were about. If they did show Muhammad's image would it evoke more protests? I don't know.

See, I picked it up when Cartman gave that speech about how (if the Mohammed episode is pulled), then other religions or those poked fun at can complain. Once there's nobody left to make fun of, the show will go off the air.

If this is the case, then these episodes have done a wonderful job pulling together two noteworthy stories and combining them into an entertaining plot.

What's the meanest thing ever said to you before, during or after a gig?
Matt Stone: When people say to me, “God, you guys have one of the best shows on television. You and Family Guy.” That f***ing hurts so bad.
Trey Parker: Very well said. It's such a kick in the balls. And the other one is, “Oh my God, it's those guys from BASEketball.” Which happens a lot.
