*******SPOILER ALERT--IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE, AND DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT FROM THIS MESSAGE BOARD, GO AWAY******
Otherwise, scroll down.

If anybody didn't catch part 1 of last night's South Park episode, the plot was that "Family Guy" portrayed Mohammad in a negative light. Cartman and Kyle left to go to FOX studios and stop the airing of a second episode. In the end, they basically spelled out that it will be about how scientologists got the last episode pulled on reruns. And, I'm getting this feeling Tom Cruise may make a guest appearance...

Anyone watch and get that impression?

It was even more complex than that.

Family Guy portrayed Mohammed in a negative light, and the country's response was to stick their head in the sand (literally).

Meanwhile, Cartman convinced Kyle that they should stop the airing of the second episode because the consequences of it airing could be drastic. Of course, that was a lie, and Cartman just doesn't like Family Guy, so Kyle got mad when he found out.

It was an interesting take on the whole "Mohammad cartoon" thing, although the message isn't quite clear.

OTOH, what is clear is that they are going after Comedy Central for pulling the episode the other week (they finished with something like, "This will be in next week's second part, unless Comedy Central are pu$$ies about it"

I didn't, but I recorded it, so could you please go back and edit your first post to put a big fat SPOILER ALERT!!!
at the top so you don't ruin it for everyone?

Thank you.

I was amused by Stone and Parker airing their dislike of Family Guy. They've criticized it in the same terms in interviews, and, like Cartman, get mad when people compare their show to Family Guy. Yeah, Family Guy does rely on a lot of random humor and pop culture references. That's part of its charm. At least nobody can accuse Family Guy of being...preachy!

And the sad part is that since Family Guy is animated in the traditional manner, it takes months and months to make an episode, so they can't retaliate any time soon.

I did love the bigwheel chase. Made me quite nostalgic for my bigwheel. They need to make those for adults!

I was actually waiting for Cartman to slam on that break on the wheel, and let Kyle go pedeling ahead into trouble. I can't tell you how many times I pulled 360s with that brake...

Bigwheels had brakes? I just dragged my feet, which drove my mother nuts because I'd wear through the toes on all my shoes.

Now that I think about it, why did Kyle and Cartman have bigwheels? I thought those were for younger kids? They're supposed to be nine or ten. I was done with bigwheels by age five, and onto a bike with training wheels.

Because bigwheels are funnier looking and probably easier to draw. I mean, with the proportions they give to the children on South Park, it's hard to even imagine their legs reaching the pedals.

I was looking for Kyle to "PIT" him...ALA "Wildest Police Videos"
Was there any show they didn't clobber last night? (Including their own!)?

Also, and I realize being over the top is the point of the show, but most 8-9 year olds don't swear incessantly, battle Mecha-Striesand and glibly deal with the death of the same close friend every week with a simple "You bastards!".

Sorry if a quibble over the correct age for a big wheel doesn't resonate. :)

I am starting to suspect that the South Park guys are around here at least every now and then. Their shows seem to cover a lot of the same territory the JREF does. Remember the "Biggest Douche in The Universe" contest? Penn & Teller made reference to it in their BS show as I recall. Now they're taking on Scientology. I know as a skeptic this is irresponsible speculation but still...

Note to victims of South Park jibes - Laugh it off. If you say one thing in retaliation or attempt any sort of behind the scenes politicing, you are just going to make it far worse. Just ask Babs.

That is if they deside to do a whole episode that deals with South Park.

Family Guy has a bout a 3-4 month turn-around period per episode. However, they can probably do a random twenty, thirty second joke about Family Guy that can be completed in a week.

I had heard that Big Wheels no longer have the capability to do the 360 spins, because of liability issues.

As I recall, it was a selling point in the commercials, wasn't it?

I don't think they were busting on Family Guy. Cartman hated it but Kyle liked it and Tivo-ed every episode. It seems like like just a vehicle for the story about showing Muhammad IMO.

I didn't even catch the analogy about Comedy Central pulling the Scientology episode but now that you point it out, yeah, it was there. I thought it was just about depicting Muhammad and the related protests. I liked the part where they had al-Zawhahri talking about Family Guy. And the bit where they had Muhammad's entire body blacked out was good too.

I'll be interested to see if they actually show Muhammad's image next week. After all, that is what the protests were about. If they did show Muhammad's image would it evoke more protests? I don't know.

Before the Danish cartoon controversy erupted, there was a South Park episode that showed Muhammad as one of the "SuperFriends" with Jesus, Joseph Smith, and I can't remember who else. I don't think anyone even noticed at the time.

No one noticed the Danish cartoon either until the Mid-east tour by the Danish mullas.

I agree. Since when does Cartman speak for the positions of Matt and Trey? Cartman is usually the one who is over the top in his hatred, and Kyle and Stan preach tolerance. Kyle and Stan are (superficially) Matt and Trey.

You obviously didn't go to my school growing up. Thats the age where we all started using swear words. A lot. (No mechanized Striesands or anything though.)

Supposedly Parker or Stone recounted in an interview about a time when someone said to one of them how great South Park was, along with Family Guy. Parker (or Stone) said that was the most hurtful thing anyone ever said to him. The other one agreed, saying it was a real kick in the 'nads. Cartman's soliloquy seemed to reflect that sentiment.

Apparently Family Guy has been accused of plagiarism by people within the industry along the lines of
Peter Griffin=Homer Simpson
Baby Stewie=Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth
etc.

Anyhow, that was a fun episode. I'll be looking forward to part two. Maybe it will feature some mutant conglomerate of Muhammed, Chef, and Tom Cruise or something.

I had read an interview a while ago where they expressed the same opinions of Family Guy that Cartman did.
