Sony's jogging robot

As I understand it, the Japanes make these things (jogging robots, robot dogs, etc) to create publicity for their company, which will increase business for the "useful" things in general.

Sounds pretty slow to be even jogging, but cool nonetheless.

sony qrio robot

If it actually leaves contact with the surface below it, then its pace will be determined by how high it leaps and how gently it springs when it lands. As I see it, it's going to have to be going pretty darned fast since it's not very tall in the first place.

I saw that news too, and immediately searched for how fast it "ran".
entertaining crowds with fluid and funky dance motions, can now trot at a speed of 15 yards per minute.
Sounds more like jumping in place with a slow forward motion to me. I htink some designed with 4+ legs can move faster than this.

I liked that PBS special with the robots that play football (soccer) tournaments. Those were impressive because they moved fast and reacted.

And of course, those fighting robots on TV that will someday rise up and become governors of California.
