Well, I agree with that in general principle, however I can think of no good or democratic way to to decide who gets to decide what those boundaries are or when they will be enforced. I am a strong believer in a single standard of dignity for all people, which includes freedom of expression.

As no one is physically harmed by ink on paper, I have a hard time saying that the proper reaction is physical violence.

Indeed. There was no reaction for several months and then a group of immans travelled through the Middle East with a dossier of the cartoons that somehow included another three cartoons that had not been published (one claimed muslims were into bestiality, another claimed that Muhamed was a pedophile and the third showed a french man in a pig costume).

Yes, I see where it leads - special pleading for religion. I don't see how anyone can say they support freedom of speech but only so long as someone's religious sensibilities are not offended.

Not necessarily. And if there was violence, those that did it would end up in jail.

Racism in this country is our shameful history. If the KKK were coming to my neighborhood, I admit, I might think violent thoughts about them. However, instead I would exercise my rights to gather and protest. I would want to find a way to make it clear that the people here do not accept their racist behavior without resorting to violence, which cures nothing.

There are 4 main schools of Islamic thought. Hanafi, Maliki , Shafi'i, Hanbali.

Much like in Christianity, there are Baptists, Methodists, Church of Christ, etc.

The Wahabbi school is a mixture of the 4 main schools, and is mainly in Saudi Arabia.

There is nothing in Islam that shows anything more than a mythical foolish belief.
There is no evidence for the moslem god.
He may be safely dismissed.

Yes that is true.

The United States recruited, equiped, and funded Bin Ladin and Al Qaeda to fight the Russians in Afghanistan.

Seems like we got our moneys worth. They beat the Russians.
