Solar activity and video that predicted the earthquake

This video uploaded to youtube a few days ago predicted that there would be a much larger earthquake coming in the next day or two.

"Im a little bit concerned anout the coronal hole in the southern hemisphere, it does look much deeper and much more dangerous, so there maybe a potentially larger earthquake coming in in the next day or two"

Uploaded on the 8th. And the 8.9 magnitude earthquake has hit today on the 11th, the stongest Japan has had in hundreds of years.

Anyway, am i missing something here, why is he looking at the sun and predicting earthquakes with that? Whats the link?

Apparently this guy thinks that coronal holes on the Sun are showing where earthquakes on the Earth are going to happen. That coronal hole in the southern hemisphere is then probably going to destroy Antarctica, as there is no way that that hole maps to Japan in latitude.

But who know what cranks think exactly, this is just my wild guess.

So more an (un)lucky coincidence than a prediction?

It depends - how many times has he made predictions and been wrong? Remember, you're citing a single instance where an event falling within some broad parameters has occurred.

Also consider every other person making an unlikely prediction. Eventually one of them will be right. It may also be his first guess. But he would be nothing but lucky.

On the other hand if they make two or three predictions and they all come true then that would be something to look at. I am not taking about something vague. I am talking about very specific predictions that can be verified.

I think he was reaching for something more specific. There have been two big ones and two hundred small ones in and off NZ in the past year and a half. And with that accent he surely knows this ;). If a big quake had hit NZ again, he'd be able to claim it. As it is, it's right in the area of his original "problem area", the Japan quake of 9 March, and if there was anything to this, he'd have noticed continued anomalous activity in the area he highlights in the beginning, but he doesn't mention a thing.

Why do you assume there's a link?

I ate Taco's for dinner on Tuesday night; does that mean there's a Taco fart-earthquake link as well?

As I have not yet made 15 posts I am unable to post urls, however if you are interested in the theories go to: (add a http//:)
inter-intelligence-communications.com/?tag=coronal-hole

Its the same with reading tea leaves, or way back when (as I put it on a test back in high school, since I was a wise ass) the Greeks used to encourage a dog to barf on an altar and if the barf boiled, it was a bad sign.

I think we are at the point of correlation not causation; with solar flares and what not and their relevance to earth quakes.

You are not missing anything because there is nothing to miss. He seems to be just another Internet crank. His "hole formation" is just pointing to a dark area in a solar image ignoring similar dark areas. He mentions a "map symmetry" with the earthquake. Then he goes onto flares. He finishes with the "coronal hole" in the southern solar hemisphere and predicts an earthquake within a day or two. He fails - it is now 5 days after the video was posted and no major earthquake in the southern hemisphere.

Frankly, Zeuzzz I am surprised that you even bothered posting about this non-science.

There is no link between activity on the sun (coronal holes) and earthquakes.
There is no link between the sun and large magnitude earthquakes.
There is a weak correlation between the tides and shallow, low intensity earthquakes: Can the position of the moon or the planets affect seismicity?

Is the earth singled out by this or do all the other planets in the solar system suffer similar effects?

There were some guys trying to make the earthquake - gamma ray burst connection following the big earthquake /tsumnami in indonesia a few years ago..
Apparently one of the largest gamma bursts ever followed that earthquake within 48 hours.
I think the causal idea was that whatever the eruption that caused the GRB must have sent out gravitational waves which could have arrived at earth just before the EM radiation .
But I don't think Ligo or other GW detectors detected anything.

However, I did notice this Japanese 8.9 was followed by a Swift satellite GRB detection within 36 hours (on 3/12/11) but the intensity details etc, have not yet been released.
http://grb.sonoma.edu/details.php?g...&id=5647&Submit=Tell+me+more+about+this+burst
(maybe they'll update it soon; If its a big one, I'm sure the Gravity wave prognostasists will be happy).

But before anyone tries to connect the dots, let me say that even before the big 8.9 Jap earthquake on 3/11/11 there were many over 6.0 earthquakes off the coast of Japan at the same location in the several days preceeding the big one.
Five occurred on 3/9/11 and one on 3/10/11. (One was 7.2 mag.)
So don't these count?

The connection to solar activity is a FAIL. It's been a woo claim before, it'll be one again. There is no supporting evidence. It wasn't even an especially big solar storm a couple days ago. Sheeesh.

Can people just let this thread die please?

I predict that it probably wont, based on the dice i just rolled.
