You omitted something critical. It's a video of a wolf in a corridor supposedly in Russia posted by an Olympic athlete claiming that it's a wolf in a corridor in Russia, illustrating how wild and untamed Russia is, as we all assume.

Why is it so reasonable that they should not check for accuracy, or at least be skeptical?

The Olympic athlete was definitely in the location that she claimed to be and there had already been a lot of publicity about the place being is disrepair, with dogs roaming the streets.
Not great journalism, by any stretch of the imagination, but not exactly shocking, either.
