Ron Paul is so impressive he convinced John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd and Bill Richardson to drop out of the Democratic race too, just in the off-chance they'd win the nomination and have to face the terrible wrath of Ron Paul!

It's on the internet ('cause I wrote it) so it must be true![/ronulan]

Ron Paul does not favor "going back" to anywhere we have ever been before. What he proposes is something completely new, and, in my opinion, completely unworkable and undesirable.

Hilariously, it appears that he was hoping for a brokered convention, perhaps thinking that he would become the nominee on the 113th ballot or something. Apparently he's got some strong challengers for his congressional seat, so I doubt he's going to be mounting a third party campaign:

If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas.

I'm gonna be honest, I am really hoping that Ron Paul loses the primary for his congressional seat, although a big part of that is good old fashioned spite rather than caring so much about the quality of his ideas. In strictly pragmatic terms as long as he's just one out of four hundred thirty five, Ron Paul might be preferable to have in Congress than a more conventional Republican for me, (although Ron Paul losing his seat to a Democrat would be great) but the year or so of Ron Paul's supporters taking over certain parts of the Internet have been enough that I want them to suffer. Youtube is bad enough without people complaining about the inherent inequities of fractional reserve banking.

Disclaimer: This is not meant to attack any particular Ron Paul fan. Please do not feel insulted. Perfectly reasonable people can endorse the ideas of Ron Paul. Just... a whole lot of unreasonable people also do.

Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican.

I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen.

In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your support, as always. And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons, the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be hearing much from you and me.

Politico.com carried what is essentially the same story:

Ron Paul appears to have had a Dennis Kucinich moment.

Just as the liberal Ohio congressman realized last month that his long-shot presidential campaign was imperiling his prospects for keeping his House seat, Paul appears to be choosing the comfort of incumbency over a continued effort to win a nomination that he has virtually no shot at capturing.

Last night, the libertarian-leaning Texas congressman sent a message to his supporters signaling that he was scaling back his presidential bid.

Kind of fitting that one of three articles the NY Times could muster to write about Ron Paul, and one was a smear that needed to be retracted and one is a premature obituary for his campaign.

I bet ALL of the media will be Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul for days AFTER he loses. Then they will let the whole country know who they COULD’VE voted for if the media had let them know about him.

Maybe he should “suspend” his campaign so that the media will actually talk about him and THEN come back in to the fight?

Dr Paul's foresight has been correct on everything so far, what makes you think he's wrong on this?

Just imagine, I leader in the White House that makes the right decision the first time!? Someday. Although, it appears it won't happen perhaps for another four years now.:rolleyes:
