So what form does the resistance take?

Wallowing in our usual stew of helpless hopeless angst, I came across a little snippet about how local protest can spread. It may not be 100 percent accurate, but there's some reality behind it, and it's kind of a cool story.

In before theprestige; "cargo cult activism. Does no good."

I mean, you didn't say anything about it doing any good, so I reasonably conclude that you don't have any good to show from this. It's just feels about the appearance of action being the same as action itself.
Well, it did give me a contended smile. Or do I mean smug? No, of course not, not smug. Oh, alright then, smug. So I wouldnt say there wasn't any action.

Color me unsurprised, that the "resistance" takes the form of standing around making noise while things progress anyway. We've reached peak cargo-cult activism.
I imagine a first step toward resistance might be seen by some as something that allows many people to become involved and mildly disruptive without the danger of being shot and dragged off to detention as ICE are so wont to do, though the spectacle is less stirring.

So what do you think they should do? Isn't it at least a good idea to be around to record what happens, as people are taken away by anonymous, masked people?

We know what anything more - i.e. violent protest - will be used as an excuse to do. Not playing into the fascists hands is the correct strategy. Document what's happening, and make it clear that's what is being done. It helps to prevent worse atrocities now, and means those responsible can be held to account if and when a non fascist government, and the rule of law, are restored.

We just had another poster complain that the protesters *were* playing into the regime's hands by protesting at all. So our options are: a) dangerously provocative forms of protest according to The Atheist and Ivor the Engineer, b) ineffectual "cargo-cult" protests according to theprestige; c) some other form of protest tbd that will obviate all criticism from our resident right-wing posters, d) none of the above. Obviously, the righties prefer d), but that doesn't make it the correct option.

This person has defended the murder of someone driving near an ICE officer. So in their mind, the left is either doing not enough or far too much (so the left is wrong in either case). It's the Steven Crowder "Change my mind" mentality. It's your job to produce the change in my opinion, which, of course, I have ultimate veto power over. It's definitely not my job to justify the racist policies of a fascist regime.

Don't get caught up trying to please these dishonest shills. The right is coping, not cooperating. Keep them in that space. It means you're doing what needs to be done.

"Remember that story about how people stood by passively while Kitty Genovese was being murdered? We should record ourselves doing that kind of thing. #Resistance!"
What, the made up one that isn't accurate? Wait...it's actually about as accurate as your description of filming and disrupting ICE as "standing by passively". Huh, that tracks.
