So Silverstein "pulled" his buildings so he could go broke rebuilding them?

I just had someone at DU try to use Kevin Spacey's narration in the PBS special to ascertain the meaning of Silverstein's words contained therein.

:cs:

The stupid, it really does burn.

But I do feel sorry for people who are so inept, so uneducated, and so pathetic as to buy into the "truth"er conspiracy nonsense. It's sad, really.

Janno Lieber City Council Testimony

August 19, 2009

...As you know, after 9/11 Silverstein kept paying the Port Authority the same rent as if the Twin Towers were still standing and full of tenants paying us rent every month. All told, since 2001, we have paid the Port Authority $2.75 billion for the right to rebuild 6.2 million square feet. of office space. That is maybe five or six times the market value of those development rights. This tremendous windfall to the Port Authority has eaten up roughly two-thirds of all the insurance we collected from our insurance carriers. So its amazing that the Port has decided to hide behind rhetoric about "market" economics and market discipline...

Full testimony can be found here.

So, it seems that quote from Johnnyfive is more applicable than ever.

Ah, no. Now this is going to be used to say the Port Authority did it.

Which would leave Silverstein as a victim. Considering the anti-Semitism in the Truther ranks I just can't see them abandoning the "Silverstein did it for money" angle no matter how illogical it continues to appear.
