So now I have health insurance....momentarily

A little publicized program of the ACA, better known as Obamacare, allows people such as myself, who have been denied by health insurance companies coverage because of their existing conditions, to get health insurance.

And now I have me some health insurance for the first time in a decade. :) At least until, if Obama loses, and Romney keeps that campaign promise to get rid of it.

First order of business for me is to get this very worrisome lump checked out that has been growing for sometime someplace guys really don't want have lumps. :boggled:

And for many reasons I hope it isn't something serious but one of those reasons is, if it is what I hope it isn't, and Romney wins, I might not have any way to get it treated down the road.

So, yeah, I have a lot at stake in this election.

[conservative]Freeloaders like you should get jobs and stop being dependent on government. It is people like you who are turning a once free nation into a liberal fascist totalitarian socialist state. [/conservative]

Well I do have to pay for the insurance. I was always willing to pay.

All I gotta say is, hurry up and get your nuts checked for crying out loud! Seriously, Travis. Time isn't on your side no matter what. I hope you've already made an appointment.

^^^ This

You never really wanted health insurance. You wanted health care for a condition. There is no "risk" to insure yourself against. As you describe your own health, your risk approaches 1.

Not that you should be denied health care. I just think it is insane that insurance should be the payers of health care, rather than insurers of risk.

Really glad you got insurance Travis.

But I thought that under the ACA insurance companies weren't required to ignore pre-existing conditions until 2014? I know some states provide insurance for people with pre-existing conditions, but I thought that coverage was extremely expensive?

Separate program but still funded by ACA. This one is run in cooperation with the state and my local county. I didn't even know about it until recently.

Well, I didn't want to say anything, but you do have that unsightly lump between your shoulders. You should get it checked out.

So what do you think the "correct" way for him to have handled it would have been? Are you saying he should pay for it all himself? What if he doesn't have that kind of money?

By momentarily, I assume you mean until President Romney is sworn in? You paid for an insurance policy and it expires right around January 20th?

You couldn't afford to have an examination for the problem, but could afford the insurance premium month after month? Exactly how much was/will the examination be?

You display a complete lack of understanding of the issues at hand.

An examination would be inexpensive, but would also establish a pre-existing condition, which would mean he could never, ever get insurance again in a Romney-and-Republicans world, where only "bad people" get sick and should just die.

Then he would be unable to afford treatment until it became serious enough that he had to go to the ER, which would be far, far more expensive than catching the condition early.

Consider yourself educated -- and count yourself fortunate that by the time you are likely to get sick, Obamacare's provisions will have all kicked in and you won't ever be faced with this choice.

Funny how you start your responses with insults, then inevitably display your ignorance after the response is given:

1. People facing a medical condition that don't at least do what they can with the funds they have, to at least get an examination to try to get an idea of what the problem is are just plain stupid. Your health comes before worrying about the financial impact.
2. An initial examination would not be expensive. Diagnostic Tests could be depending on what might be done, but at least you take the first step to find out the costs.
3. He already has a pre-exisiting condition. It just hasn't been fully diagnosed.
4. Even with a pre-existing condition he can get insurance and treatment in other countries and Massachusetts.
5. BO is highly favored to win the electoral college. No need to fear about Romney killing Obamacare. Get the exam ASAP with or without insurance.

Consider yourself educated
LOL. So says the guy that failed to consider the obvious 5 above points, yet is so quick to throw out the insults. Failed Again.

I think the correct thing for him to do is to take the best action for himself that the system presents.

More broadly, I think that we should really get down to who should pay for the health resources Travis will consume. (Dont you love being talked to in the third person travis?)

I've got $20.00 that says if Romney is elected, ACA will not be repealed by January 20, 2013.

You in if Romney wins?

The comment "You display a complete lack of understanding" is an observation or an opinion, but not an insult.

Let's see, if you have no money and can't get credit because you're bankrupt, where do you live? The space underneath bridges gets awfully cold between November and March.

4. Even with a pre-existing condition he can get insurance and treatment in other countries and Massachusetts.
In case you haven't noticed, Travis isn't in Canada, Europe, or Massachusetts. Your suggestion is about as useful as suggesting a drowning man learn how to swim.

Question: do you have medical insurance? Or do you simply have $100,000 just kicking around that you can spend in the event of a medical emergency?

Pure exaggeration. Most people will never spend that much on their healthcare in a lifetime. In fact, most Americans spend less than $1000 per year. If we are going to have this debate, let's stick in the realm of reality please.
