Skeptics VS. Woo at Dragon*Con 2007!

Official Site:
http://www.dragoncon.org/

From the official site:
Dragon*Con is America's largest, multi-media, popular arts convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film.

Dragon*Con is Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, GA

ETA: Although not mentioned in that summary, they also have a science and skepticism track of activities, this year

Yes Wow...

There is a new addition to the Space and Science part of the con...

The guy running the Space and Science now calls it the SSS track, Space, Science, Skeptics :)

He will have a ton of cool panels and events as part of that track. Ben Radford, Jeff Wagg, Michael Shermer, and others will all be on that track as well. :)

There will be a Debate as well between the team of Michael Shermer / Ben Radford vs those Ghost Hunter dudes from that bad TV show...

in 8 years my house will be paid and I will be £900 a month better off. I'll be at everything from then on.

Tell Randi not to pop his clogs for at least 8 more years, it is my one wish to meet the old boy.

Now....

Of ALL places I never thought that on the JREF forum anyone would be 'against' Dragon*Con becoming more like TAM!

How... 'anti-TAM' of you!! ;)

I know you're kidding, but for the record, I am not anti-TAM. I love the Meetings! In fact, I'll most-likely be going on all three Amaz!ng trips, in 2008: TAM5.5, TAM6, and the Galaps Cruise. (I already gave my deposit for the cruise!)

But, I go to D*C to escape reality, for a little while. I go for the sci-fi and fantasy stuff. I don't want to get home from D*C complaining that, for me, it was "just another TAM, only more crowded in the hallways".

I love reality, but if every convention I attend focuses on reality, the diminishing returns accelerate.

Any chance of a video for this being made and distributed (youtube or some such)?

Well,

Our plan is to tape the debate, and possibly some other of the Skeptic stuff. Depends on how much time we get. I mean, last year between running a track, having Phil Plait, Fraser Cain, and others there... and my brain still in total healing mode... I was less than optimal and couldn't stay awake for more than 5 or 6 hours at a time!

This year I SHOULD be much better and we should be able to gather some video content... :)

And, yes, I knew ya'll were joking!

Hopefully, I'll get there too!

If I do, I'll be bringing a camera. Probably some means to record impressions too, so I can write something about my experience.

Anyone going to be around Thursday or Friday before DragonCon? If so, I'd be willing to throw a get together, although it might be a hike to come up to suburbia from downtown Atlanta. We leave early Saturday though.

Which Thursday and Friday do you mean? D*C officially begins on Friday, August 31, but there will be some "unofficial" stuff to do, and hang out for, on the Thurdsay before. The crowd will still be substantial, even if it is just getting started, on Thursday.

I am actually flying in Wednesday, the 29th, because there are a few things I wanted to see in Atlanta before the Con starts.

But, yeah, I still might be able to hang with you folks for some time, on those days, anyway.

(I will NOT be there on the 23rd or 24th, if that is what you meant.)

Yeah, but ... who else is going to Dragon*Con to play Classic Traveller?

Wow,

Definitely true!

Myself and Swoopy will be in our hotel room starting on the 29th to start setting up and help with our signs, brief hotel security and con security on our schedule, etc, etc... So, yes, at least to me and Swoopy the con STARTS full steam on Wednesday night!

Not to mention, we need to meet and go over how things 'run' at the con with Dr. Shermer, Ben Radford, and Jeff Wagg! :)

D.

Ok who do I blame for the fact that I've had 'Brains, body, both' blaring away in my head since I woke up this morning?

Wow,

Well, the website is VERY slow to update. People are kind of a bit miffed with that part a bit, but he has been negotiating a time/day since last Thursday with the main office!

I've talked to him on the phone, so at least it is true, unless someone is playing a terrible joke on Geo.

Either way, *I* am going to have him at Dragon*Con for our Podcasting and Skeptic events!
