single-payer system ... singled out

... Yes, because telling a major sector of the economy to shut up and go home will work out well. :|

Seriously.

Well, if the majority of the economy is all about Bernard L. Madoff's strategy of solving problems, it surely is time to intervene in the name of "the People".

Same is true concerning pre-condition policies. There isn't any downside to a Government intervention other than inurers whing about their loss of $$$.

However, my main point is that patriotic Americans should rather care about the people than the free market whenever one contradicts the other point. Yet, Republicans obviously rather care about a minority of business people than about the People as a whole.

Therefore, any Lobby opposing the People is undermining the American ideal of "We, the People". And people supporting those Lobbies are equally "unamerican".

... don't you agree?

The AMA has been against any form of government insurance for a very long time. The medicare debates in the 1950s sent the AMA into apoplectic fits...

Believe it or not, Ronald Reagan actually released an album devoted to stopping medicare, on behalf of the AMA. It's infamous for implying that if medicare were passed, Americans would eventually have to explain to their grandchildren what freedom was like. Seriously. :)

If the AMA supports the bill, that worries me.

I remember the album from Sicko, I assume. But that was 60 years ago, a lot of things drastically changed, including the "derelict" health care system. I doubt that the AMA isn't aware of the situation today.

Or maybe the bill means something very different than it's title suggest. :(

Not really. They opposed Clinton's efforts just as strongly.

You are a European, right? If so, it's perhaps worth pointing out that the AMA is not like the official medical associations found in most European countries, such as the BÄK in Germany or the GMC in the UK. It's just a voluntary association. It's also worth noting that the vast majority of American doctors don't bother to join it.
