Shutdown 2023

I like how nobody even bothers to pretend to defend what the shutdown is actually supposed to accomplish, it's just the same "Hardy har lookit people being dramatic because their lives will be horribly effected in a meaningful way" nonsense.

Well, what IS it supposed to accomplish? Other than "ruin McCarthy's career by forcing him to choose between turning House leadership over to the yahoos or siding with Democrats," everyone agrees it is a terrible, pointless stunt that will backfire on the entire GOP.

This does seem to be more of an intra-party fight among Republicans compared to the united front of jackassery we've seen in past shutdown stunts.

The MAGA wing is flexing its muscles. They aren't big enough yet to run things, but they are big enough grind everything to a halt.

1. The Debt ceiling is a made up limit that doesn't actually exist. It's a completely self imposed restriction and the whole concept needs to be scrapped.

2. We don't need a wall at the Southern Border and I thought Trump promised Mexico would pay for it anyway.

A physical barrier on the southern border would slow the flow of illegal immigration. It can't hurt. We already have hundreds of miles of it.

McCarthy is pushing a sending bill catering to the fai right which will slash all spending for social serived by a double digits; it will be DOA in the Senate and might not even make it out of the house; all it does is waste time which is rnnining out.
A shutdown in inevitable at this poing. The GOP cannot even get togerther at what unacceptable demands to make.

All those are DOA in the Senate.
I don't to sound snotty, but you should really read up more on what is going on.

Senate will probably pass a stopgap spendng measure to keep the government oopen until mid Novermber:it's almost certainly DOA in the House.
All the bills McCarthy is talking about in the House will be DOA in the Senate.
Fasten your seatbets, it is going to be a bumpy landing.
 
GOP, with these right-wing nutjobs simply cannot govern. Hopefully this will convince folks to give the Dems 6+ more seats in the House next year.
 
The Senate bill, btw, is worded as a proposol for the House to consider, not an actual funding bill, since all funding bills must "Originate" in the House.
