Should the USA keep any soldiers in Iraq?

I say, Obama's plan to keep 50,000 in there after 2010 sounds good. Each year after that we could withdraw 10,000 or 5,000 more.

Bush may have gotten us into this mess, but if we do this right we can get out of Iraq with a stable government and military able to handle things without us.

I would agree that there should be coalition forces in Iraq for the next several years, and would be eventually phased out. I do wonder, however, what their responsibilities would entail.

Let's nor forget Bush already signed a deal with Iraq to have absolutely all US military forces out of Iraq by December 31st, 2011. Those 50,000 support personnel will only be there for a year or so.

I am a cynic.the the arabs(and theyare arabs)dont want us there after what we did for them.they think to kill us.will do it.let us completly leave, but not untill we undo all that we have done fore them.includes schools, power, transportation,.put their oilwells back into the shape that they were before.ofer the oibarons a really decent price for their petrolium..we subsidise them.see what happens whenthey have to the jobs that westerners do for them.

Did this piece of paper cover mercenaries?

There should never have been any US troops in Iraq. They should leave now and the US must pay reparations. No American company should be allowed to profit from the "reconstruction" phase of the looting.

But the US will not abandon its investment. The "support personnel" will stay for years to come or as long as the US can afford to keep imperial garrisons scattered all over the globe, protecting its "interests".

Since when did "pulling all the troops out of Iraq" equate to leaving 50,000 behind? Isn't that the same plan that Bush had? I note that many democrat leaders aren't unclenching their fists and want to know when did 0 become 50,000? Seems like a darn good question.

Economic SwindleUs Act 2009 - the depression begins NOW.

I'm pretty sure we've got an agreement with Iraq to be out completely by 2012.

ETA: Oops--gumboot beat me to it.

Obama always said there would be a residual force. He never said zero.

Here's what he said during the campaign

Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel.

And he never gave a specific number. I remember that distinctly.

Where would the US imperial terrorist violence be without "al Qaeda" to excuse it?

"Al Qaeda" wasn't in Iraq until the US barged in - now the US uses it as an excuse to stay there. What a sick, twisted joke!

Why is "al Qaeda" in scare quotes? Do you still deny the group exists?

Yawn, that post is sooo 2006.

Sorry to scare you. It is unlikely that all the violence in Iraq that has been attributed to "al Qaeda in Iraq" has actually been perpetrated by "al Qaeda in Iraq".

It is, however, a useful scary, catchall label that makes it look as if the US has a politically correct motive to be in Iraq.

The dead, the maimed, the bereaved, the displaced, the poisoned, the tortured and the traumatized have long memories.

Why did you dodge the question? Is it because you know you lose all credibility by denying al Qaeda exists?
