Should Evolution be taught in schools? The 2011 Miss America delegates weigh in...

Is there a video where they talk about 9/11 inside jobs? You see, we have Architects&Engineers for 9/11 Truth, Lawyers for 9/11 Truth, Firefighters for 9/11 Truth, etc.
I think we should finally get Beauty Pageant Contestant for 9/11 Truth and Supermodels&Playmates for 9/11 Truth! That would finally get people to listen to moronic arguments!
 
Scary (for the most part), esepecially the number who advocate teaching evolution but still put an equivalent stress on creationism. From a UK perspective, though, it just seems so bizarre that this subject even comes up in this context, since it's simply not an issue of public interest here, except on maybe the same level as how few people would argue "flat Earth" versus "round Earth."

I had evelotion being thought in my primary school 20yrs ago in Poland.
American education seem to suck big time.
Saying that my degree studies in England were easier than my highschool back at home.

Evolution - the ideas, the evidence, the process by which the theory of evolution came about and has changed over time as new things are learned.

Did not watch the video. Rarely do, and do not have any desire to watch one involving the question raised in the OP.

Exactly.

That's the thing about Miss America. It's not necessarily that the contestants are stupid (though some almost certainly are). They have to play to the judges. Questions like this have a very touchy political element that make them scary for a person who's pandering for votes in a country like the United States.

Given the circumstances, I think it was a brilliant question for the interviewer to ask. Not "should creationism be taught in schools," but, "should evolution be taught in schools." They took a popular controversy and flipped it around on its head.

By inviting the contestants to betray their own lack of critical thinking and/or toady up to the conservative political base, it appears calculated to make a statement about the state of education and the absurd concessions made to religion in this country.

I can't get my head around the argument that 'both sides' should be taught, I was never taught evolution during my schooling, but when you are studying science for which it is fundamental, I would of thought you teach the facts, how many sides are there to scientific facts?
 
The next question they should ask the contestants should be: "****in' magnets, how do they work?"

The problem is that creationists and IDers are also of the opinion that there is only one side to the story, which is creationism/ID, and the only way to get their view mentioned is by pretending that it is equal to evolution, warranting equal time.

If it was up to them, evolution would be tossed out altogether, but fortunately it isn't up to them.
 
By the way, I really would like to compliment most of the candidates for being consistent with each other.

Having said that, I would have loved to hear them be consistent in saying what Beerina said.

Their intelligence and wisdom scores are almost 0 already, and I can't expect their constitution to be very high. All they have is dexterity?

But there were some intelligent statements. It's not all bad.

Um, that's Miss USA, as owned by Donald Trump as a farm league for future wives, though I noticed that some of them, including the winner, are not currently blonde, so I don't know how they made the cut.

Miss America is a different, somewhat less sleazy, contest.

My SIL's BFF's daughter is in the Miss America Pageant. Her mom is an order of magnitude more attractive.
 
I really don't want the next generation taking care of me as I age... 'No Ms. Chris RN. No medicine for you. We're going pray for healing.....' meh.
