Shooter at DC Shipyard

Just saw an update on CNN. 4 dead and maybe 10 total shot. 1 - 3 shooters. Not much info because the workers in the ship yard have to turn in their cell phones when they enter the site.

Press conference on now. I'll update. Single shooter. active investigation. No confirmation on deaths/injured.

1 police officer shot. Shooter is dead. Multiple casualties. Potentially 2 other shooters, unconfirmed.

Looking for white male in military uniform.

Looking for black male, 50ish, possibly in a military uniform with a rifle.

MSNBC said the shooter -- who was killed by police -- was dressed in black, was a former Navy Yard employee and armed with a rifle, shotgun and handgun.

Disgruntled employee scenario?

If their work is security, then they may be armed. If not, then unarmed is usual.

If single shooter only – the Alex Jones crowd will have a field day with this, as there are/were reports of ‘multiple’ shooters. And any discrepancy in the news cycle within the first few days of a mass shooting is definitive proof of a government conspiracy… gone wrong.

If multiple shooters – this is really a question to the US citizens here: I’m sure it would be easy for the officials to identify the deceased shooter. Could they afterwards use the NSA to find out who he’s been communicating with to find out who the other shooters were? Would this classify as a terrorist attack and warrant NSA involvement?

It is headline news in the UK with the BBC. I suspect that is because it is close to the POTUS and they got a comment on the shooting from him. Otherwise it is just another shooting in the USA

Since Newtown there have been an estimated 24,480 gun deaths in the USA of which an estimated 8,161 have been reported in the media.

Gun deaths need a X factor to make them newsworthy.

You are familiar with the Boston Marathon Bombers case, aren't you?

I'm thinking the X factor is often 'government worker' going 'postal'.

But then nearly as many of us ARE government workers, eh? 43% of jobs?

And I guess this is another 'copy cat' of the recent spates of multiple shootings. They come in clusters, it'll quiet down soon, and we'll go a couple years without. So I'll beat the gloom-and-doomers, and reiterate that the rate of multiple murders IS actually down.

Hmmm. Now I'm wondering how the rates of workplace multiple murders compare govt vs private sector, and also workplace vs 'not workplace' ?

Safer at home vs post office vs shipyard vs Ford factory vs marathon vs movie theater?
