Shocker

My brother was a big fan of REM.

He once quoted to me a Michael Stipe remark, words to the effect that Stipe was an equal opportunity lecher. (I think that used to be called bisexual.) This tidbit is of the vintage twenty years ago.

I am guessing that the periodical in question adopted the Andrew Dice Clay attitude toward bisexuality, to whit:

"There is no such thing as a bisexual, guys, you either smoke pole or you don't smoke pole."

Glad to see journalism lives up to, at least, the Dice standard.

Talk about a non story . . .

But that did not keep one of my college roommates from having a massive crush on him.
Per my above remark, were she cute, he'd probably have done her, were she willing.

I remember an acquaintance at university being surprised that Freddie Mercury was a) bisexual, and b) promiscuous.

Does the sexual orientation of the artist really have an effect on the sales of their music?

I don't think it would matter for a lot of rock and classical.

I think it would matter some for jazz and blues.

I think it would be a sales killer for country, rap, hiphop, etc.

I think it would be the end of the world in xian xrap.

I mean it was always obvious for Stipe and Elton John, not to mention George Michael (I was six years old and knew he was gay and I didn't even know what sex was) and they had and continue to have success.

If you recall, there was a big deal made of it when Elton John finally admitted being gay. Valerie Bertinelli was quoted in magazines as saying it disgusted her and she no longer had his posters on her wall.

She married Eddy Van Halen on the rebound! :D

Pierre Trudeau Quote,December 21, 1967. (From CBC archives)

If Trudeau wasn't the best leader Canada ever had, he was definitely the most intelligent. I liked him because he had a vision for Canada's future and he led the country towards it. We haven't had a leader in Canada since.

Not even Kim Campbell?

What's "gay"?

Well, son, your mother and I were expecting a question like this. You see, there comes a time in every young man's life when they want to know what's gay.

When a man loves another man, they get married. Except they can't get married because it makes baby Jesus cry. Anyway, if they love each other very much then the man gives the other man a present and 9 months later they buy a puppy because gay men adopting babies makes baby Jesus cry.

So you see, if you ever find yourself drinking coconut rum and thinking that speedo's are an acceptable form of clothing outside a pool or the beach then you might be gay.

Now go wash your hands for dinner. Your Aunt Tracey is bring over her flatmate Sapho. Such a nice young lady, I wonder when she will settle down and have children.
