Shingles vaccine?

To be fair... I got four shots in one day. I got flu, TDAP, and pneumonia in one arm, and shingles #1 in the other. So the "immune system in overdrive" fatigue, fever, and aches could have been caused by any of them... or all of them together. But the shingles arm hurt a lot worse :)

Question: How can you get shingles more than once? Wouldn't you produce antibodies the first time?
As I understand it recurrence is fairly rare, but not way way rare, and worse if you're older and worse if you're a woman. Some years ago a friend of my mother's, an older woman, had it several times. As to how, I'm not entirely sure of the mechanism, but the chicken pox virus, though it apparently does immunize you for life against chicken pox, does not actually go dormant, an kind of settles into your system, so it can re-emerge from time to time again. Strange and nasty business.
