OK, so I guess its better that a Hot Altar Boy contest, but is this really necessary?

Has catholicism officially jumped the shark? Why the hell does The Church feel a need to change the perception of nuns as old and dour? I thought they were supposed to be virginal and wedded to Christ. Though, I guess if you want to keep your savior happy its best to supply him with a bunch of hot chicks.

Oh, also, google-fu is weak with that priest. A simple query for "sexy nuns" returns over 150K hits for me. I also noticed a few years ago that an apparently popular niche on porn sites is "Nuns". So, I'm just not sure where father Rungi sees this going, but it could get just a bit weird.

Probably because every year fewer and fewer women choose to become nuns, so Catholic church needs to make vocation somehow "cool".

Why? Surely it's more cost-effective to let people in the church volunteer to do whatever it is that nuns do than it is to provide free room and board for life.

True, other denominations get by just fine w/out nuns. Some even get by just fine w/out priests! I'll never forget that Quaker wedding I went to years ago...

Still, this must be an attempt to remove some perceived stigma from being a nun and thereby remove one of the barriers to young girls choosing the convent. The church isn't hurting for money and housing nuns is not a problem for them (especially if more nuns means more "good" done and more resulting donations). A clumsy attempt, but an attempt nonetheless.

Or, perhaps its an attempt to lure more hetero priests....

Perhaps it's a way of competing against the lure of the 50 virgins of another faith. Beautiful women before death, or after, the choice is yours.
(personally I hope my virgins can cook, I probably won't want them for anything else, I'm too tired to be training a bunch of giggling know-nothings in the gentle art of love)

Sexy nuns largely in concert with S&M/B&D/Satanism is very big in Spain, France and Italy. Holding well in Mexico and Germany and real big in Japan (tentacled demons and girl/girl mostly). Available in England - but more humor/ girl's school stuff. Don't know beyond that. This could lead to more of that depending on aspects of the contest.

Nuns in movies are almost always babes, with eye make up and all. I always found that funny, because the nuns of my Catholic childhood were downright scary, with hairy warts and such. I thought they were chosen for those traits, to keep boys minds on the lessons.

given that the average age of nuns is increaseing at almost one year per year, they would need to do this soon.

So, isn't it weird that a religion that eschews hedonism in favor of abstinence, denial and a twisted sexual morality is now looking for ways to make their female followers come across as attractive.... maybe even sexy?

I'm all for it - I'd totally buy the Sexy Nuns of the Vatican pin-up calendar. But, my mind still boggles with the cognitive dissonance.
 
In response I think it's only fair that I hold the first ever secular humanist beauty pageant. You won't win anything but they rest of us will get to see some hot atheists/agnostics/ignostics/other irreligious peoples. In keeping with the spirit of the thing the event will be purely pansexual meaning that men, women, and transgender people (men and women will be accept in or out of drag) will not only be accepted but encouraged to participate. Also nudity will be both accepted and appreciated. I don’t know what the point of being a man and participating in this will be only that the odds of you winning are slim because when it comes to pervy things heterosexual men can post in record numbers.

For me it's wanting what I can't have. The woman is married to god, how can I possibly compete with the Big guy?;)
