Ed Senate vote to repeal ACA

And what if there isn't a community health center that can provide those services?

I'm not sure if this was directed at me but as I said, I am against defunding Planned Parenthood.

But...that's why they need to put more money into the community health centers. There are many medically underserved areas and it's impossible for Planned Parenthood to fill all the gaps because Planned Parenthood clinics aren't full service medical centers. There are many health issues that are unrelated to reproduction.

That's another reason this move by the GOP is stupid. This is an issue that needs to be looked at without dragging it through an abortion debate.

The stupid, idiotic, lying Senate Republicans who are foolishly trying to get the ACA repealed are about as bad as the stupid, idiotic, lying House Republicans who foolishly tried to sue President Obama.

Or the stupid, idiotic, lying Democrats who ignore the Constitution limits and form of our government ?

That lawsuit (the HHS paying out $178B est w/o Congressional authorization) is still active, however the proper venue would be to impeach the President. Untenable b/c Dems would place the race card yet again.

A pox on both your parties.

Which means it is all for show as they know their vote will actually have no consequences.

"Hey, I voted for the terrible thing the responsible adult didn't allow to happen!"

Dude, I've seen Democrats and Republicans vote against bills they were sponsors of when it appeared dangerous it might actually pass.

Bills that won't pass, say a tax cut, will have members of the party opposed fight like dogs to be permitted to vote for it, for their district's consumption. Bills that lose by 1 vote are of this form.

A free market in health care?! Good lord, no, please.

A "Free market" in the US usually means producers of goods and services conspire to artificially drive up prices, or do other rather malfeasant things. Like for example, buying the sole means of production of a drug, then hiking the price by nine thousand percent.

Despite being treated like the modern day boogeyman, sometimes a little regulation is necessary.

#EDIT: This is all happening now, of course, without it being a purely free market. But going free market, I think, would pretty much dismantle the last line of defenses against such behavior.

You can't have a free market healthcare system anyway. Even assuming that a theoretical free market could exist, healthcare isn't something the consumer has enough time to gain information about. Who's going to research the best and/or cheapest provider when their arm just broke?

One thing that hasn't been tried in my lifetime is a free market in healthcare.

We do have a free market in a segment of health care. Producers of herbal and homeopathic remedies can sell their wares without proving that they work better than a placebo. All they need to do is include the magical words "this product is not intended to treat or cure any disease" in any advertising.

In the regulated pharmaceutical market, vendors must prove the drug is relatively safe and more effective than a placebo.
