No. Whats wrong with a bicycle?

Segway, no way! If you're too lazy to bike get a scooter, they cost a tenth as much. And you look slightly less geeky.

They look like they'd be fun to ride. I saw one a few days ago for the first time, in a hallway of a company I do business in. One lady was teaching another something about it, and I didn't have time to wait for the drive test.

But you gotta know that as soon as lots of people start riding them, there are going to be accidents all over the place. Hitting a curb, or other obstacle, or even going off a curb, will be something that the gizmo's feedback won't be able to compensate for, and the rider will fall. And he'll fall with his feet blocked in, unable to partially catch himself. Broken wrists and collar bones galore.

We spent a week down at Disneyworld 2 weeks ago and saw several Disney security people riding them. Dork-o-rama. If they made an all black one (with chrome trim) that could hit 50 mph, I'd consider it!

The perfect gift.
It just screams "silicon valley nerd," even more than having 3 cellphones and a PDA strapped to your belt.
Slower than a bicycle.
More expensive than a bicycle.
Falls over when batteries die.

Yeah, this is exactly what we need with about 40% of the population in the U.S. meeting the definition of obesity and type-2 diabetes is on the rise.

I suggest the bi-pedal mode of conveyance. How does the song go? "Put one foot in front of the other..."

a boston postal worker said he thought it was going to be a good idea until it got slightly chilly. since he wasnt generating any extra heat by walking he felt like a popsicle on it.

it makes sense in large warehouse environments but i couldnt imagine being able to use one on a crowded city street without bumping into people left and right.

From Maddox, just scroll down a few inches and look at the pic if you don't feel like reading the article.
May be a few swear words

Yes, that fixed third wheel sure will come in handy....

Until you try to turn.

(It's a shopping cart wheel, the problem is it is mounted too close to adequately turn correctly. Even so to function properly with a passive turn like that it would have to be mounted in the back, not the front.)

Have to admit they are pretty nimble. I saw them at Disney, weaving through some very crowded areas.
