Every time you say bigfoot, replace it with faerie, or mothman. It is not unfair to say that all social constructs fall into the same myth category. If you'd like people to accept something different, provide evidence proving it so. Period. Bigfoot does not get a special pass card due to your claims.

That's an interesting point. I've not seen any tracks or spoken with any witnesses to the other examples you mention. I suppose you'd have to ask someone else about those as I've not seen any evidence to support their existence, ie signs of passing, personal sighting, vocalizations etc.

The argument that Bigfoot is a social construct is interesting. What would the purpose serve to use Bigfoot as a social construct? I'm curious. How far back do you think the "social construct Bigfoot" goes? Is it something of a more recent use by society? Chris B.

Cultures have used the boogeyman construct to keep the kids around the campfire since time immemorial. Footie fills this niche nicely, just makes for fun campfire stories and can be an interesting twist on the ole snipe hunt.

"Here, see what you can see on this thermal device . . ."

This requires all kinds of special pleading and just-so argumentation. There is a process for habitat and species nomination for protection. I have posted the link to USF&W's process for example, but it is true on all levels of government: Federal, State, and Local. Not only that, but PRIVATE societies as well like Nature Conservancy, Izaak Walton or whatever.

The fact they strain so hard to ignore that these processes and organizations exist is proof that they know bigfoot is BLAARGing. They do not speak with wildlife managers, with archaeologists, with biologists and etc. that are swarming over all of these alleged bigfoot habitats.

You are not doing your job of acknowledging the overwhelming evidence of all these highly informative behaviors at the same time they are making this claim of wanting to protect habitat. Most of their actions are in contradiction to, not in support of preserving habitat.

Oh sure, we are to believe they relegate the "study" specifically to people with no background in the pertinent sciences? The contradictions are like a Mt. Everest here. Your argument requires this extremely stylized special case, and an irrational one, to agree with.

This, my friend is where you have jumped the shark:

This straw man is the last straw. You have seen a parade of us all emphatically stating NOBODY is of the belief they are ALL liars. So why do you trot out a straw man like this?

To say you are "not one" means you are distinguishing yourself from people who are. Well just name them. There aren't any.

And start naming the people who you claim fit the description above. So we may see your evidence. We have this BLAARGer from Kentucky before us. Is he your evidence of someone who believes?

We do not have an assumption that people are BLAARGing. It is only after sufficient proof like this Ky. fellow has showered us with that we can state with such high confidence that he has proven it to us.

It is a straw man to say that we pre-suppose. No, we watch actions. We let those actions speak to us instead of the chain-yanking/trolling or whatever you want to call it.

I would suggest BLAARGers to be mostly well read recluses with a single World opinion based on the thoughts others had written for them to read.

Many such posts made in absolutes demonstrating with great effect their absolute desperation to be right at all costs.

Funny how they can't stand to be wrong or admit they've made an error in judgement when the fact is they have no judgement of their own. They simply vomit up misc facts from here or there from something read somewhere written by someone else without having ever had the intelligence or gumption to grow an opinion of their own and actually check to see if what they had read was even true. Isn't that odd of those folks? I would consider them to be the biggest LIARS in the club by any standard. Chris B.

You have misunderstood. The default on this forum is certainly that people saying they've seen bigfoot are lying--several people have admitted as much. That is a very serious problem, for two reasons. First, it's logically indefensible; it presupposes knowledge we don't have, and ignores the fact that this forum only experiences a self-selected subset of bigfoot believers. Second, it more or less ensures that we've alienated every bigfoot believer before they post, meaning that we've effectively shut down any chance we have of presenting the real data in a way that will actually make a difference. Both are serious problems. The second defeats the purpose of an allegedly educational forum, and the first corrodes one's thinking over time.
No I haven't. At least not like you think I have.

Funny. I don't recall agreeing to any such thing. And I KNOW that the bigfoot community will reject this as the unwarranted assertion it is.
Are you ******* kidding me or just kidding me?

(And just so it's clear, I'm talking about "BLAARGing", not "lying")

The highlighted needs to be backed up. If people were too busy/apathetic to argue your point in past arguments, that doesn't mean that you've actually achieved a "win" in any case. Welcome to the internet.
As to your first sentence, I should have said something more akin to "There's a building consensus here on this very forum that..." As for the rest, I need to return your greeting as you've wholly miscalculated the depths of my indifference to you believing anything you ******* want about what is or isn't Bigfoot(ing).

...No one is suggesting that there's no lying about bigfoot, or even that that's not the case most of the time, but I challenge you to support the assertion that all bigfoot belief is lying, because I think that this is nonsense. Some bigfoot believers are crazy, deluded, fooled, or downright ignorant/stupid. You can't just dismiss that.

Do you really think that you can support the claim that all bigfoot witnesses are liars? I think this is not true, because I'm not willing to make such huge, unsupported assumptions about the motivations of bigfoot believers.

I don't understand why anyone would make a big deal about arguing something as sketchy as this. Feel free to enlighten me.
Reading comprehension. I have never made the claim "all bigfoot belief is lying" nor "all bigfoot believers are liars" and you couldn't prove otherwise. You imagined it.

As I said, it's the clinician fallacy...
No it's not. You made that up (not the term, the application). You're the newbie here. And you're not a very good learner.

The reason lying and "BLAARG"ing have been oft invoked for bigfooty campfire stories of late is that, while skeptics have often acknowledged the possibility of fabrications for such stories, as a group we'd historically been far too polite to point them out. We can't imagine ourselves lying about such a thing so we relegated lying to a small, unknowable fraction of the stories and the bigfooters who tell them, and credited complex misidentifications and hallucinations to explain too many of them. The problem is that in so many cases those explanations are not satisfying, e.g., because the witness claims to have seen too much too clearly. Eventually you reach a point at which a false story is more likely than a false memory, and, of course, vastly more likely than a true bigfoot.

In Chris' case, he's got some leafy shadow photos that he claims on his website are a pair of bigfoots, apparently grooming each other. He's far more skeptical about those photos here at the ISF. That's a red flag to me. He's motivated to make specific claims on his website that he acknowledges are indefensible when challenged on them. That's not me being a jerk, that's me giving an honest appraisal of the information he puts out.
This^^^

...What about the guy that witnesses a bear on two legs and accidentally presumes it was a Bigfoot? That guy is not questioned about his sighting, he's ridiculed for it here. The result? Now you have a guy that thinks he saw a Bigfoot being called a liar or delusional etc. Isn't that gonna provoke some hostility rather than understanding or discussion? Defensiveness rather than open discussion of the event?...
So a guy sees a bear walking on two legs and instead of thinking "Hey, there's a bear walking on two legs." and then never thinks much about it again (unless he's telling campfire stories), he thinks "Hey what's that, bears don't walk on two legs, it's gotta be an new unknown species of Manimal™ that's survived millions of years of evolution amongst us and only I have seen it. I must be special, I am the almighty OZ mutha ******!"

What's to "understand"?

...Maybe it's just my way of looking at things but to me you guys are going about it all wrong. What the common MO seems to be is ridicule rather than reason.

Funny thing is, I could talk with that same guy and determine if he actually had seen a bear or a Bigfoot. I've done it before. Chris B.
Well you're kind of immune to ridicule so that's good. And how do you tell exactly what he saw? If the "witless" makes no claims of seeing the always blatantly obnoxious Bert's Suit Rental™ label on the right thigh (it keeps suit rental theft to a minimum), it was a bear?

We are obliged to differentiate between different causal mechanisms. Believing one has seen bigfoot because that is the best-available interpretation for what one has seen, to the best of one's knowledge, is a whole different ballgame from lies. I am absolutely baffled as to why anyone would argue against that concept, yet I seem to be in the minority here.
It's so funny you claimed earlier that I'm the one who misunderstood. Do you live in a straw house?

You know what? I'm done with this. People on this forum are all-too-obviously taking dogmatic stances on both sides. When one has to plead with scientists--scientists--to use proper data evaluation, and gets blasted for straw-man attacks when everyone can go back and find examples quoted in my posts of what I'm talking about, it's clear that reason has left the building. When one is accused of "jumping the shark" for having the gaul to say that the other side believes what it says, it's simply too ridiculous, irrational, and moronic a discussion to participate in.
If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black. And curiously, reason hasn't left any building. Your verbalized "perception" of such is only hurting your case.

You've not seen any "bigfoot" tracks or heard any "bigfoot" vocalizations, or collected any "bigfoot" evidence either. All you've done is make a lot of wild claims with absolutely nothing to back it up. That is typical for people making such wild claims.

If you'd like people to believe you have anything left by a real bigfoot creature, prove it. Otherwise it just falls into the same category. We've already proven what claimed bigfoot evidence really is. (many times over, to the point where EVERY resolved bigfoot claim is humans, either lying/hoaxing, or being mentally deluded and the occasional mistaken identity.) You've been more than willing to say you've seen bigfoot. Cool.

To most of us here posting, we've heard the claims before. For many, many years. All with nothing at all to show for it, except a lot of lies, hoaxes and deluded people.

At what point do you admit it's just not there Chris? Never? (typical footer behavior, never admit the truth)

The truth is Chris, there is no bigfoot. You know this, but you keep trying really hard to force your opinion based on nothing, on every skeptic. Why should we take your story any differently than the others? How can all of these footers make claims of seeing something so huge and unknown to the rest of the world with absolutely nothing to show for it? No evidence of "bigfoot" at all.

Why should we not put your claims into those same three categories I've mentioned time and again here Chris? (seriously) What makes yours any different than the thousands of other baseless claims?

All Gauls are liars.

The raw footage of the family group encounter is on my youtube channel, the full size image of the pic with the subject at 120 feet is on my web page.
There's also a blink animation pic on my site. Please feel free to download them if you can help clear anything up. Chris B.

I'll be happy to give your video a looksie, can you please link your YouTube channel? Please and thank you!

Congratulations. I knew you couldn't even discuss your own theory. You've gone straight into attack mode again. Is that all you have?
Can't even discuss the dynamics of your "Bigfoot is a social construct" theory? Why am I not surprised.

Bigfoot is not real? You keep telling yourself that.

Again Chris claims to be close enough to clearly see and describe in detail, a bigfoot encounter, but his Jazz DV-171 camera couldn't produce anything but blobs...

It's amazing. Why does he even carry any cameras at all?

They are never able to reproduce anything even close to what he can see.

Ha. Well, you left out a few other people that were also present during that encounter besides myself. The little Jazz camcorder was a bit out of it's element. I agree with another member's opinion that it was really a kid's toy and that's what became of it.

I don't mind telling you I took Cervelo to the actual film site of the family group video. You can ask him if there are any dark shaped objects there on the hillside if you like. We were all over that hillside. It won't be any breach of agreement for him to answer as long as he doesn't pin the location down.

Bolding mine.

You interview the guy. You look around for sign. You know the wildlife in the area. Then you make a determination. Here's exactly how you do it:

http://bigfootforums.com/index.php/topic/1026-oneida-tn/

I told you, I've done it before. How would you reach the same conclusion? Tell the guy straight away he's a liar, con artist, etc? Like I said, here it's not about "helping" someone, it's all about the attack.

Chris B.

Sad that you try to pass off this, as this. Obviously the same location. This is the kind of BS footers try to do constantly. I've already pointed this out once. (the same location on both of these vids, as linked previously)

It's amazing.

In the first vid, we can clearly see distant branches in crisp focus. Even when the camera zooms in we get a nice clear view, in focus. Even small branches are clearly discernable.

But not the bigfoot...

Yes it is obviously the same location a couple of years later with a fresh pine break. I still monitor this same area and it's the same area Cervelo has seen. Is there some point you're trying to make? Is this your attempt at an aha moment? lol. Try again. Chris B.

Same area, new cam. The first clip was not Bigfoot, It was to document a fresh pine break and there was a dark area at the edge of the break.

This is the area from the hillside family group video. I still monitor this area and at the time of the video shown in the first clip, I was monitoring the construction of a brush pile. Chris B.

Hilarious, in a very sad way.
By living in The UK I'm not allowed to have an opinion on Kentucky Magic Monkeys it now seems.

I ask again Chris, as a researcher into non existent creatures would you care to explain your "gear" ?

Give me details.

I'm trying to point out that you're claiming brush and a dark spot is a bigfoot group encounter? Great observation skills.

Sounds like you really want to see bigfoot in the woods.
