This is for Chris. Hope it's helpful.

Here is a list of rules for cryptozoologists to take seriously if they want to be taken seriously, based on Loxton and Prothero (from ABOMINABLE SCIENCE). I've condensed, paraphrased, and quoted directly from their last chapter: “Why Do People Believe in Monsters? The Complexity of Cryptozoology.” Notice, most of these rules have been addressed or advocated by skeptics upthread.

Rethink fundamental assumptions. Instead of automatically assuming an odd occurrence is cryptid related, take a step back and ask the question: What really happened? Use Occam's razor. Think of the simplest explanation, the one with the fewest assumptions. Apply it to see if it fits the circumstance. Think of this aphorism: “When you hear hoofbeats in the night, think first of horses, not of zebras.”

Test the null hypothesis. As L. and P. relate it to cryptids, “...the default scientific assumption is that any strange observation can be explained by known natural causes, the less likely explanation --- cryptid activity or paranormal phenomena – should be accepted only when all natural causes can be ruled out.”

Meet the burden of proof. The evidence for Bigfoot must be strong enough to overcome established facts relating to its existence/non-existence. Do eyewitness accounts and tracks, both unverifiable as true evidence for Bigfoot, outweigh the history of failure of organized attempts to produce definitive evidence? Or, to quote L. and P. again: “It follows from the claim that eyewitnesses fairly often see cryptids that carcasses or bones of those cryptids should also fairly often appear – but they do not.”

Collect high-quality data. Where is the real evidence? Bones, bodies, hair, scat even? If you are going to collect eyewitness accounts, how about doing more with them than just nodding in agreement? I remember a sighting report written up by a local Bigfoot group concerning a young girl who saw what was essentially Patterson's Bigfoot, glimpsed in her backyard, in a town not 45 minutes from my apartment in Dallas, Texas. Despite all the improbabilities inherent in this account, the investigator from a Bigfoot field research team said the girl seemed honest and, in any event, why would she lie!

Don't use or publicize sub-par videos or photos, i.e., blobsquatches.

Be skeptical of your own data. L. and P. quote Richard Feynman: “The first principle is that you must not fool yourself – and you are the easiest person to fool.”

Yet you have no problem ignoring evidence presented by people who are when it is at odds with your bigfooty world view . . .

Ooh - you're almost there. Now just think for a moment why it has taken "a long time" to describe certain animals. Here are some examples:
*the animal is very small
*the animal is very similar to an already recognized species
*the animal occurs somewhere very remote or difficult to access

How 'bout bigfoot? Is it small? No. Is it similar to something we already know about? No. Does it occur someplace remote or difficult to access? No. (Well some of them might, but you claim to have them in rural Kentucky, and folks claim to have seen them all over the Lower 48 states).

Now that you understand the difference between the discovery of recently-described species and the NON-discovery of bigfoot, I hope that you will no longer link the two ideas.

Let's wait and see what becomes of Syke's bear before we decide only small things can remain hidden.

The most likely reason is that the end users aren't smarter than the gear they're using. Your mileage may vary.

What kind of tight budget are we talking about here? There are some decent recording gear to be had at reasonable prices if you put forth the effort. I could have been able to get such even when I was still working minimum wage, back when minimum wage was still five-fifteen an hour. There is no reason to be using what your website suggests.

Just because the website is free doesn't mean you can't do better than what you have currently. I'm sure if you asked nicely you could get someone to clean it up for you.

I've walked past a few game cams before, no pic was taken of me either. I assure you I exist.

You are correct on the website, it's time for some updates. I've been busy with other things since 2010. I'll see what I can do with it later this year.

Not my reasoning. My knowledge is a conclusion based on everything else that is known about Kentucky and the rest of Footie land. It is not a lack of evidence, it is all sorts of evidence that says they are not out there. Things that have been explained over and over and over.

Let me play your game a little bit more:

here is 3-1/2 minutes of HD photography...

https://www.youtube.com/embed/fdSVp9GFeS4

Should be equivalent to your 15' HD shot. I agree it probably wouldn't scientifically prove existence, but it would go a long way toward getting the University Funded expeditions you were crying about earlier.

Thanks for the link. I agree that was an awesome example of 1080 HD and mega slow motion as well, awesome video. I use a Sony 1080 HD cam now. I've learned my lesson about the cheap pocket camcorders.

I think the reason that game cams don't work is very simple. Nonexistent animals do not set them off.

See above, I exist, yet I can pass game cams everytime without having my pic taken.

Bigfoot can get ciggies and lighter from the some places he gets all his stuff. From your kitchen, your car, your campsite. How do you know he doesn't lounge around your house and watch TV when you're not there? You're missing the bigger picture here, Chris. Cigarette smoking Bigfoot works. I ask you this... why can't Bigfoot smoke? He's a big boy. He can do whatever the hell he wants. Who's going to tell a 9ft tall, rage prone, flesh eating behemoth that he can't enjoy the smooth virginia flavour of a Camel? Not me. You're missing an opportunity with your negative attitude. Go for it.

Here's a quiz for starters... What brand does Bigfoot prefer? Is he a Marlboro man? Luckies? Does he prefer regular, or menthol? Does Biggie like filters, or does he dig the full, rich rush you can only get from unfiltered?

lol..Smoking Bigfoot. Maybe we could lure one in with a fresh pack of smokes assuming they have nicotine attacks too. Now that's funny.

Why doesn't Patty have this clear "reverse instep"?

Is she a different species of bigfoot?

Yet Alderfoot has it...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n520/DJKitakaze/Bigwallace6.jpg

Chris, where are the pics of the other tracks this creature made on either side of the gravel road? How wide is this road?

What's all the ridiculous stuff about a human foot with a relocated instep? That junk kills any credibility you might have. Is it supposed to be funny?

I didn't ask you a darn thing about foot structure, Chris. What are you talking about?
I actually thought "relocated instep" was funny.

I asked you for pictures of tracks you saw, and the width of the road.

You brought up foot structure on your own. Presumably to avoid talking about the tracks crossing the gravel road.

There are no bigfoot foot anatomy experts, Chris. None.

Meldrum's guess is no better than yours. Or mine, for that matter. Or Krantz's.

Melba? You used Melba as an example of DNA testing procedures? Are you feeling well?

Bolding mine. Please see your other quoted posts to refresh your memory.
You specifically asked me why Patty doesn't have a reverse instep yet alderfoot has it.

The print pic shows a track collected in early March, with an instep on the outside of the foot. I pointed out on my site that if you conclude it's a large human track, that person would have been walking around the woods in early March barefoot with a foot deformity that relocates the instep to the outside of their foot. In other words, not likely.

How that statement "kills" my "credibility" according to you, is somewhat of a mystery to me. But please keep in mind "credibility" is of more value to some than others. You may have luck using that sort of bunk against others, but I have no University position to protect and I don't run and hide when the subject of Bigfoot comes up. So with me, you won't invoke much fear of non acceptance. Same with perceived status, it won't buy a cup of coffee.
Chris B.

Makes ya think huh! :eye-poppi

The amazing thing is your obliviousness to the absurdity of your own words. "Not likely" it's from a deformed human walking around barefoot in March...so it's gotta be a deformed-but-undiscovered man beast walking around in March? I mean, what else could it be besides Bigfoot right? Or are you implying that it's maybe from a moose, or a hyena, or even an "act of gawd"?

For the record, I have very flat feet and the instep that I do have, on my left, foot is on the OUTSIDE. I wear size twelve shoes but I have never faked a bigfoot trackway. I also don't have a mid-tarsal break and neither does bigfoot for the very basic of reasons. Things that do not exist have no distingquishing anything.

Chris, it is true that not all game cams fire when you walk by. Many are set to a delay, so that they will not take a picture too soon, or capture something that is passing by, and many are set to a delay between shots as well. The motion sensors of many are not very sensitive, and of course some simply do not work well. But just because you've been lucky or gone fast enough does not mean that no game cam has ever gotten a person. Plenty have. The hypothesis that all the sasquatches ever to walk the earth have all been uniquely able to evade all the game cameras in the world forever, while it cannot be disproved technically, requires a stretch of credulity few of us are willing to make, given that the lack of evidence here mirrors the lack of evidence everywhere else.

It's funny when you hear all of the excuses from footers about why no footage. Why in the world would bigfoot be scared of cameras or people? No one has bagged one to date or captured any photos of one! This is what happens when real wild primates see a camera.

Let's wait and see what becomes of Syke's bear before we decide only small things can remain hidden..........

Sykes bear won't fall in the "small things remain hidden" category, it will obviously fall in the "very similar to a known creature category".

.........Here are some examples:
*the animal is very small
*the animal is very similar to an already recognized species*the animal occurs somewhere very remote or difficult to access
..........

It would also fall into the "remote or difficult to access" category.

The cynic may well ask why you would deliberately choose to assign the wrong category to this example, when in fact, your example actually makes The Shrikes' point for him very well. You might also note that The Shrike said "some examples" (of the way animals may have evaded detection by Western science). His list may be exhaustive, but he has allowed for the possibility that it isn't.

Pretty simple.

He's following bigfootery manual.
He's repeating the same worn out flawed arguments I've been seeing from footers since I joined this forum, back in 2003. Footers come and go, the BS remains the same.

One might even wonder if some are not bots. Footerbots, since they are extremely predictable and limited when it comes down to behavior.

The print pic shows a track collected in early March, with an instep on the outside of the foot.

It shows no such thing, imo.

It's ridiculous to think so, imo.

However, since you seem to, where are the other pics from that trackway? Surely you photographed at least the other two "reverse instep" tracks on the sides of the road?

"reverse instep" tracks would be pretty unique in the bigfoot world, and even pics would interest prominent footers.

Or has bigfoot once again left only one track, coming from nowhere, and going to nowhere?

Or are you simply going to claim that you saw a unique bigfoot trackway, had a camera with you, and neglected to document more than one track?

Though one hell of a lot more likely than a 9-ft, 600-lb bipedal ape (with part-time 4 wheel drive) that turns invisible when science is applied.

Wait. You think his result points to a species of Bear that still exists in the Himalayas?

You seriously think he is going to say an Arctic bear, that eats almost exclusively MARINE MAMMALS, travelled 3000 miles, through central Asia, bred with some brown bears along the way, and has descendants living in Landlocked Bhutan? 2500 miles from the nearest Pinniped?

No. I think this is going to be a case of a semi-preserved trophy in a house or temple in Bhutan, that was submitted as Yeti sample. The bear didn't come from around there.

But that would imply that someone trying to prove the existence of a yeti intentionally set out to decei - -.

Oh. Nevermind.

Maybe Sykes also found an Arctocephalus tropicalis/Arctocephalus pusillus hybrid, in the same area.

I'm aware that you may not be aware of the skeptical comment I was addressing in the caption at that time. The comment was "That's simply a human print"

My point was, no, it's not.

When pressed about the game cam issue, and why they don't work for Bigfoot, I responded. Again, I don't know why but I have a few ideas, nothing provable. One of those ideas is avoidance. That's the reason I've never been seen on a game cam. I'm aware of them as they are out of place in the woods, so I simply avoid them.

Ah, so you're in the "it's a hoax" camp. I dunno? You may be right. That's why I suggested we wait to see what happens.

There's nothing there asking you to explain any "foot structure".

Unless you think wood = foot structure.

Try again.

Well, it's clear you want to argue. I really don't want to argue this, so in this case I'll even give you the benefit of the doubt as a courtesy.

Maybe you do not see my point of view so here's my take:

You asked me why the specific feature in question was not shown on Patty's print and yet shown on Alderfoot's? To me, this was a request to discuss foot structure differences of those two as related to the feature in question.

It shows no such thing, imo.

It's ridiculous to think so, imo.

I'm not surprised on your review based on what you know of the track. I didn't really ask for it. I can say, you are lacking the info required to form an educated opinion and base much of your statement on blind supposition.

Ah, so why did I release the photo in question and not any other photos of the trackway? That's easy, the rest of the trackway was made in leaf litter. Although there were specific impressions for the trackway, there were no other prints pressed into cleared soil or other open areas. So since the leaf litter would tend to distort and eliminate some features altogether, this pic was the best choice to show defining characteristics of the track. If you are asking to see the other pics of the trackway, the answer is no. If you are asking if there were other tracks to go with the one shown the answer is obviously yes.

I don't think there is such a thing as "prominent Bigfooters" IMO. There are only others seeking answers based on their research and findings.

Who said this trackway or features are unique for Bigfoot? Not me. I don't base my findings on what "evidence" others have gathered. How do I know their evidence is good? I don't. So I base my findings on what I personally gather and know to be good. That way if there's a mistake made, I own it.

Well, the game cam issue is of course a minor one, but I would just point out first of all that you are contradicting yourself, as having said before that you could walk right by a game cam without being photographed, and now saying you simply avoid them. Of course it's possible that every bigfoot that ever walked the earth is sufficiently smart and observant to have avoided every game camera ever placed anywhere on the earth, but it seems a bit of a long shot, especially if the "out of place" aspect of a fixed and immobile game camera is more tangible to them than a person carrying a substandard video camera, which is so often claimed to hit its mark.

Of course, anything is possible. Maybe it's just chance, and tomorrow someone will catch a full frontal video of one with his game camera. Many things are possible which are too unlikely for most of us to bother with.

That's easy, the rest of the trackway was made in leaf litter.

All this time and you finally say that?

Couldn't you have said that in the first place?

I would have loved to see the prints left by such a heavy biped in leaf litter.

If the foot presses down 1/4 inch in that gravel drive, the leaf impression must be remarkable.

Alas...

Shoot, with such a heavy biped, there might even be skin cell DNA in the tracks on the rocks and leaves. There probably are a lot of skin cells on the rocks in the track.

Alas...

No one really wants any actual data.
