See My Stage Debut-- Only $15

Make sure you book ASAP. You really needed to have booked two months ago in order to get a good rate. Every day you wait now will increase the price significantly. =/

Yeah, I've seen a few around Penn Station for $250 a night.

The Hotel Pennsylvania or the New Yorker? That's a very popular area for tourist hotels. The rooms are cramped, dirty, and not particularly comfortable, but the location is decent and it's probably the best bargain you'll find in Manhattan (there are cheaper hotels out there, but you really don't want to stay in them.)

There are less expensive ones down in the East Village area that are far less touristy. I did PM Scrut with some ideas.

Yeah, and most of those ideas are booked for that weekend.

One I was looking at around Penn Station was called something like "New York Ramada" maybe?

ETA: Nevermind. I just booked at http://www.hotel17ny.com/index.asp. Looks like I'm about 10-12 blocks from the theatre.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!! No, no, no, no, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I may have to cancel my trip. :(

I'm buying a loft in downtown St. Louis. It's "almost" ready. Now schedules are colliding. Things are changing. I might be moving that weekend. I should know more in the next day or two.

Damn!!!

Bah. You can get a loft anytime. You can only come to new york on Nov. 11th, 2006 to see a forumite get fried safely zapped once in your life. =oP

Only once in my life too, but hopefully I'll have a long lifetime of not being "safely zapped" to look forward to after the events of next weekend.

Any further thoughts on post-event festivities?

I figured that when we got to the week of that we'd make firmer plans. It doesn't look like our group will be too large.

Since the seats are general admission, I think we should arrange to meet an hour before curtain so that we can introduce ourselves and congregate and make a general nuisance of ourselves before we see James Dillon fry.

Woo-Hoo!!! I'm going!! I got things sorted out on this end.

And I agree, let's arrainge to meet at 2:00 on Sat, and maybe we can all get good seats together.

I read Randi's mention of this event in his commentary, and I must say I am disappointed. Judging by his light hearted tone, it sounds as if he already knows there is no chance of James getting fried. That sucks. I was hoping there might be a slight "incident".

As the winner of the Richard Wiseman Theatre of Science auction, I'd like to invite everyone to the 8 PM performance on Saturday, November 11, to witness my hair-raising performance of standing in a metal cage absorbing approximately one million volts of electricity (the cage, that is, not me-- I hope). Tickets are available here for a mere $15!

I'm also told that a number of JREFers are planning to be in NYC that weekend for Professor Wiseman's show, so perhaps we can also use this thread to make other plans for the weekend? I'd be happy to show everyone around town and to offer any travel advice I can for out-of-towners.

Will you doing a reprisal of your performance at TAM5 with the bewitchingly studly Mr. Wiseman? I can't make NY, but I'll be in LV, and I don't want to miss the excitement.

It may be too late...i'll give it a try.

Cafepress do fast shipping options, although the standard is 5-7 days so you might just make it with that. I think the black t-shirts take longer to make, though.

I'm glad you're going Scrut. The whole adventure wouldn't have been the same without the opportunity to be traumatized by you.
