Sean Manchester - Vampire Hunter

Events sometimes make public figures of people

This is an important point that bears repeating. By becoming a public figure, Manchester has opened himself to a whole drekload of criticism.

Do you really think that Sean Manchester chose to become a public figure? He reluctantly spoke to the print media who doorstepped his home in the early days. And when he did comment it was more often than not to set the record straight when certain people misrepresented facts which involved him and his activities. For many years he has refused to talk to newspapers and journalists who still pester him for interviews. This much can be learnt from his books, forums and websites.

The only person these days who is not a public figure is someone who, like myself, chooses to remain anonymous or a hermit recluse who has nothing to say.

Yes he chose it. If he has books, forums and websites he is deliberately calling attention to himself. If he appears on the TV, he is deliberately calling attention to himself.

I have a prediction that you're about to be given further moderator action. Please tread lightly and heed Darat's warnings.

So why does Scott Johnson and his wife support a vendetta against someone whom neither know on the say-so of a convicted felon thousands of miles distant with a history of threatening behaviour, and his accomplices, all of whom post fabricated allegations fed to them by that person?

You're right, it does seem odd that such people, unconnected with Manchester, Farrant, the UK and any of the deluded self proclaimed Vampire Hunters which live there.
I can see two possibilities
1) Scott Johnson and his wife are part of an international ring of satanic kitty killers, engaged in a Holy War against the virtuous, noble defender of Truth and Light that is Shean Manchester. Or;
2) Manchester has yet again latched onto another website, and harassed them for no reason.
Now, We have no evidence for option 1 (but I'm sure that you'd liked to believe it anyway).
However on point 2, we do have similar incidents to judge by.
Even if we discount the Alex Lucard farce, we can examine how Manchester and pals have reacted to "the Vampire" posting about him on her blog, and how he reacted to the threads on this very forum when we decide to examine his nutty claims. Manchester is clearly terrified of criticism and very litigious, despite having (seemingly) zero knowledge of US law.
And I quite agree, where you find allegations of Manchester's ill deeds, you will find information from Farrant and co. And I can offer a reasonable explanation which doesn't rely on hints of a dark satanic cult, or some overarching conspiracy against Manchester (although given his paranoid ramblings on other matters, I'm sure he would LOVE to believe in a conspiracy against him).
Manchester is a public figure, making bizarre claims all over the media, he will come to the attention of people, many of whom will (rightly) see him for the nut he is. Some of who will mention him on their websites, in less than glowing terms (but then if you make a media career by expecting people to actually believe that you battle vampires, what do you expect?). When Manchester (or his disciples) see what has been written about Manchester's flights of fancy, he (or they) throw a hissy fit, demanding that all references to the Right Reverend Buffy be removed, on pain of lawyers.
People receiving these threats will react in one of three ways.
1) They will capitulate
2) They will totally ignore it (which will result in more complaints) or
3) They will try to fight it.

Those that take route 3 will probably start by trying to find out more about the activities of the High Lord Garlic thrower himself. And there is a group of people only to willing to give them all the information they want on Manchester's loony crusades. Now, some (even all) of this information may not be accurate, but as Manchester in his dealings directly with various websites, forums and bloggers has shown himself to be a paranoid, delusional bully. Which means that when people run across Farrants information, they are quiet inclined to believe most of it.

Actually, Scott posted on his blog that he thinks both parties are nuts. I don't think that's any ringing endorsement of either side.

ETA: And it certainly isn't supporting "a vendetta against someone whom neither know on the say-so of a convicted felon thousands of miles distant with a history of threatening behaviour, and his accomplices, all of whom post fabricated allegations fed to them by that person"

Here is a direct quote from Scott's blog:

For my own part, I can only honestly say that, with the possible exception of Ms. Green, I think they're all loons. I've gone on record many, many times explaining my own complete non-belief in all things paranormal, psychic, and occult. While I certainly respect the passion everyone seems to have involved in all of this, I can only repeat that, as I believe the English themselves say, "you're all bloody daft."

I support both sides, when Manchester says that Farrent is nuts, I believe him, and when Farrent says Manchester is nuts, I believe him too.
You don't need to be a Ferrant supporter to believe some (but not all) of the things which he claims about Manchester.
Just like you don't need to be a Manchester fan to believe the some of the things he says about Farrent , which shows him (Farrent) to be nuts.
They both believe they have battled vampires, that’s all the evidence I need.

But what really upsets me about this is that we've got this 7 page thread and at least two other 3 page threads, and I haven't been able to come up with a single Manchester United pun yet. My powers are failing me…

This is why I stick to making fun of Newcastle UTD. Much easier to fit into conversations.

So you are saying ITV dragged Seanie kicking and screaming into that TV exorcism Thames staged? And that Indiana Jones schitck he did being lowered into that tomb was reluctant? He sure looked like he was chewing the scenery to me. Same with the National Geographic clip.

You can't have it both ways. If Sean doesn't want people to say negative things, he needs to stop making wild claims to the media, publishing books and putting up websites. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Personal or not

Hi
I have since spoken to David again and he is in absolute agreement that we should keep this none personal and deal with only claims made about vampires and their alleged destruction etc etc.

If other people wish to post up personal accusations, then that remains their (his) problem. We would like to remind people about the beautiful young vampire that changed into a giant spider before being staked through the heart (sorry, I meant middle!) but that will have to come later I'm rather busy today with more material matters.

Catherine.

hey great. How's that "operation" to separate you two into your own accounts going? Sorry if I don't understand why it takes any more than a few clicks and five minutes to register a second account and ask a mod to change the name of this one.

Also, I would like to see the evidence for the beautiful young vampire that turned into a giant spider before being staked through the heart (or middle.)

In general, I would like to see any evidence from either you two or Myth Buster that vampires even exist. Thanks.

Then it is best served splattered all over Sarah Michelle Geller's scantily clad body.

Now there's an interesting debate, Sarah Michelle Geller, Allyson Hannagan or Eliza Dushku? (or however you spell their names)

two people using the same account

CatherineandBarbara,

Post http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72559

In that thread, Darat said that only 1 person can use 1 account. Unfortunately, that posting that was originally in here was moved to that thread.

To avoid creating a sock puppet, I think 1 of you should create a separate account and the other 1 continue posting under the original account. Just be clear who will be using which.

Hi there fowlsound, I have just registered for David a new account and will be registering Barbara for a new account on Thursday that is if she still wants one. I will ask the moderators to change the name of this account once everything else has been sorted. I am sorting the matter out with admin as we speak and am waiting for David to be activated.

For myself personally I do not believe in the existence of 'vampires' blood-sucking or otherwise. As for other parnormal existence well that too is debatable although I cannot personally state that other forms of entities exist or don't as naturally there is not enough evidence to claim one way or another.

What is someone once said. Those who do believe in the paranormal evidence is not necessary and those who don't believe no evidence is good enough.

Catherine

The first part of that I agree with. The second part is generally not the case around here. If I were given evidence of a phenomenon I am certainly willing to re-examine my views. However as Carl Sagan once said "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."
