Sean Manchester - Vampire Hunter

Talk about wriggling off the hook!!!! As can be clearly seen Manchester never answers anything about himself,(other than to say he is Mr Wonderful) just throws up a counter accusation about someone else--usually David F . If you defend your own good names against what he says, then you are "waging a vitriolic hate campaign" against him!He refers to me as Catherine in a derogatory sexist way as "females" as if we are soem sort of inferior species.

I pity his wife who he " saved from the clutches of Satanists"--poor woman, I think I'd have stuck with the Satanists--and wrote a sordid book all about it with pictures of her cavorting topless in it!

Also dont forget his naked cavortings in London Cemetary when he went to "Luisa's" grave who had been bitten by the Highgate Vampire and died, according to his Gospel truth haha worst selling book, he stood in the nuddy apart from a skimpy purples cloak all night--good job there were no dog walkers around---then she rose up out of the grave and turned into a Giant spider which he stabbed with his stake and she turned into horrid nasty hissing sizzling goo, while he threw himself onto her sobbing uncontrollaby.

Wonder what her family thought of all that!

Oh and did you hear about his naughty Diana dreams!!

Either he is higher than mortal man or he's talking a load of old codswallop--I know what I think
barbara

Codswallop?

Codswallop. A word used by my Gran to describe something she thought to be far fetched.

Used quite a lot in North Yorkshire at one time.

I see the Bish is claiming friendship with Steve Howe of 'Yes' fame and the late Spike Milligan.

I'm pretty sure that dafydd is well aware what codswallop means and that he/she was, somewhat belatedly, offering their opinion based on the choices offered by CatherineFearnley some 5 years ago.

This thread is the first Zombie, Vampire thread in history.

I've only been a member here for four years. I'd never come across this entertaining thread before.

Just read through the whole Saga!
I have to say I like David Farrant, he comes across as a Woo but Eccentric rather than anything else. Manchester seems a nasty piece of work though.

I'm sure I saw something on TV not long about about the Highgate Vampire, but I wasn't really paying attention so I couldn't tell you what it was from.

Was it the BBC4 A-Z of the Dark?

There was an archive clip based prog about "The Night" on BBC4 a few months ago which showed a very young Sean Manchester speaking in connection with the so called Highgate Vampire at the time in the 70s when it all started. His nemesis Farrant also made an appearance under a slightly different name.

There was also a Channel 4 programme called 101 Things To Do When You’re Dead in 2004, possibly using some of the same archive clips (they are described in an Ofcom adjudication as being "from a BBC programme, 24 hours, broadcast in 1970").

For the Ofcom adjudication, see "Complaint by The Right Reverend Sean Manchester", Ofcom broadcast bulletin 58, pp 44-50.

None of his complaints there were upheld I see.

Back in the 90s (I think) he got an OffCom adjudication upheld when his appeared on a late night prog when the host of another Tv prog, James Whale (coincidently the same name as the Classic Horror director) expressed less than 100% belief at his "Bishop" title.

Ah The James Whale Radio Show, that was entertaining TV

I remember this thread! So now the Insistently Reverend Bishop Manchester turns out to be actual Nazi? That's just too perfect! This thread has multiple layers of entertaining weirdness and I'm glad to see it rise from the tomb.

Oh Boy! Thank you Mojo, this is hilarious!
Bishop Manchester complained that he had been treated unjustly or unfairly in that contrary to a condition that his office was not compromised, he had been addressed in the programme by his forename “Sean”. In this respect, he had been given every assurance that he would at all times be addressed as either “Bishop” or “Bishop Manchester”. Bishop Manchester also complained that James Whale had threatened violence and had subjected him to a tirade of discourtesy and rude comments.

Then:
Accordingly, the complaint is upheld in part

And the punch line:
1 October 2002...
The Right Rev Richard Holloway

:D

To be fair, Richard Holloway was known as the Atheist Bishop... (ETA and is a very nice bloke).

I hadn't heard of him, and certainly didn't intend any insult to him. I was just tickled by the fact that one of the panel that upheld the Right Reverend Manchester's complaint that people didn't take his title seriously was someone who shared it. :)

Cuddles,

Firstly, good to see you again. :)

Second, I'm still looking into the allegation, but here's what I've written on it thus far: http://dawwih.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/ja-mein-bischof.html

As of this writing, Manchester's yet to respond.

Rrose,

That's correct. Kev Demant covered that in more depth, here: http://plan9.150m.com/godsave.htm

Oh, and the different name Farrant gave was 'Allan Farrant' - a pseudonym he'd given to police after being arrested on 17 August 1970 for being in 'an enclosed area' (the cemetery) for an 'unlawful purpose'.

Also, watch out for Manchester's 'Friends'!

Paul,

Here's a transcript of the whole episode (the version in that YouTube clip is slightly abridged): http://plan9.150m.com/intro 24.htm

dafydd,

You'll find Fearnley's, uh, changed her tune a bit since that time. See my interviews with her here: http://dawwih.blogspot.com.au/2010/08/interview-with-catherine-fearnley.html also, here: http://dawwih.blogspot.com.au/2010/09/second-interview-with-catherine.html

Captain Swoop,

Not just 'friends', but in his 1997 book, The vampire hunter's handbook, he claims Howe was an original member of the Vampire Research Society...which was certainly news to me.
