Scottish Sceptic Meeting

Right, Cap'n Snort brought this up a wee while ago but it sort of shrivelled and died.

So, with the reshuffle of the forum I thought that I would try and resurrect it.

If anybody's interested we can throw ideas onto the table here and see how it goes.

Where? It really depends on what's easiest for people to get to. It's likely to be either Edinburgh or Glasgow, though.

Anyone can come, be they in North America or down south or anywhere. I just hope that this meeting doesn't fall flat on it's face again before it gets off the ground.

So, any ideas?

Well, "sit around a drink and make fun of the English" sounded a good idea to me...

Can't think of much of skeptical interest that's specifically Scottish, unless there's some Celtic/New-Age/etc. woowooness around. Oh, and there's Nessie, of course.

My vote would be for Edinburgh but I'm fairly easy regarding location.

I like Glasgow, but then again, I'm certainly not "upper crust" Scot.


In a way, I like Glasgow because most Americans hate it. Plus, my family comes from there. But, most tourist types like Edinburgh best

Just as a side note, I was reading the local free rag they give away, and on Oct 28th I think, there is a 'wedding and psychic show' in livingston. Why do I find it funny that these two items are put together as one show.

Was mentioned in conjunction with a story that the local ASDA - Walmart have decided to sponsor some local spoon bender with free spoons.

Anyway, depending on numbers, I have found in the past for groups of 20 - 50 it is handy hiring a youth hostel for a weekend, its a lot cheaper, no-one to chuck you out of pubs or extortionate hotel bar rates (bring your own) and usually quite a large common room for any lectures, presentations etc.
