Scientology no longer tax exempt...

I first saw the story here in the OP, but I knew it was fake news as soon as I read it. It's about the Supreme Court doing something the Supreme Court doesn't do (and unanimously, no less). It was about as plausible as a story about the College of Cardinals overturning a ref's call during the Super Bowl.

I'm not American, so I'm a bit hazy on what the US supreme court can and can't do. Of course that is no excuse for my unpardonable lapse in skeptical judgement.

All I can do now is offer penance in the usual fashion: Five hail Hitchens and I'll light a candle for saint Sagan...

Quite right. The Supreme Court rules on constitutionally of actions and it takes a long process to get there. Snoops has an article on this nonsense.

Different jurisdiction, but Australia's High Court gave tax exemption to Scientologists as their belief system was no less ridiculous than virtually every other religion.

I have a very good one. It is called WOT.

Heh. In the automotive universe WOT has a very different meaning - one that might be more equated with recklessness. When I read your post I initially interpreted it as a gearhead's boast: "my BS detector is WOT, MFers!"

Perhaps I've been stuck inside from the snow storm for too long...
