Replace scientology with catholic church and it matches the problems we've read about in the past.

Danny Masterson, of "That's 70 Show" fame, sentenced to 30 years to life for the two rapes he committed. Big L for the Church of Scientology, which tried to keep Masterson's serial rapes a secret. All three of Masterson's rape victims (one case ended in mistrial) met him through the Church.

A separate civil suit is pending against the Church itself concerning allegations of pervasive and severe harassment and intimidation directed at trying to intimidate the rape victims into silence. Scientology's "Fair Game" policy, where members are explicitly instructed to harass, stalk, and otherwise intimidate those seen as attacking the church (especially defecting members), is notorious and alleged to have been in effect against the Masterson victims who were cooperating with the criminal investigation.

I think one strong indicator of the declne of the CO$ was the loss of the power it once had in Hollywood, and many stars renounced the CHurch.
Even Tom Cruise has been very quiet about him membership lately.
And I agree with Rinder that the Internet was main reason for the CO$'s decline. It was something they could not control, and when the infor about the wackier CO$ beliefs begunt ot leak...Xenu and hte Volcano bieng prime among them. the COS became a laughing stock. They never recovered from that.

I read the Dianetics book and had the same problem with the base concept as with Christian and original sin.
What did I do so awful I have to pay to get cleansed a dozen times? And it's quite costly.

A friend with odd ideas said the book is devil stuff or something and won't burn. He was wrong, it burns quite nicely.

I bought my copy of Dianetics -- the Ravings of a Certifiable Lunatic for 10¢ from a remainder bin at a book shop some many years ago. One of the worst bargains I ever made.
