Well, sure, if you misuse a tool you will not get the wanted results.


And if you ignore genuine limitations of the technique you will run into serious trouble. That's kind of the point. Not saying "never do this", but saying, "in many situations this technique is not appropriate because there is a chance pathogenic toxins will remain in the food."

So does washing your hands! So that should be banned too. We need the good bacteria. Why is everyone dying from e.coli? If we didn't wash our food and hands all the time we'd probably become immune to it. Public life should just be one big chickenpox party! Dig?
 
I think you're right, it's The Chrysalids I was thinking of. Now I'm going to have to go through the book looking for that passage! Of course it might have been in some other book entirely.

I think it must have been another book, there's only one occurrance of "atom" in The Chrysalids and it's not in that sense.
