Merged Scalia is dead

These people are the reason that a complete joke of a candidate (Donald Trump) is probably going to be the Republican nominee.

Scary note: Trump is actually the best Republican candidate. Mostly because he's so incredibly vague. All the other candidates said or did things we can point to as their political platform, many of which are horrible ideas. Trump has nothing. Zero is greater than all negative numbers.

It's terrifying, honestly.

Do you disagree with them? How would you characterize those three people?
Mitch McConnell is very conservative. The reason he is hated by the GOP base is because he is not stupid/insane thus understands that, for example, shutting down the government in effort to extort the President into signing a bill defunding Planned Parenthood both would not work and would backfire on Republicans.

Roberts is a conservative and the only reason that conservatives don't like him is because he didn't destroy Obamacare.

Kennedy is right leaning and the major reason that conservatives don't like him are his recent gay marriage decisions.

Other than his "banning Muslims", and being OK with eminent domain for private ventures I can't find a single position where I like Rubio or Cruz better than Trump. I guess Rubio isn't a total jackass like Trump or Cruz. And there was that severely difficult path to citizenship thing that he used to be in favor of.

How about Rubio campaigning to be the US senior pastor instead of president?

Who is they [their]? One or two Congressional leaders who made an off-hand comment or two which could be interpreted in many different ways? And those comments represent the entire party for eight years?

I really like this post. The more I read it the more irony it tastes. It thoroughly encapsulates the fools errand of tracking down cherry pickable quotes from decades past. It lays open the long tradition of not letting a president appoint a justice in their last year. It has layers. Thanks.

As a medical friend of mine once put it, the GOP is on the horns of an enema. Do they go ahead and confirm a moderate justice and tick off the base, or do they block the nominee and a) get labeled as obstructionist and b) get a much more liberal nominee jammed down their throats by President Clinton and the incoming Dem-controlled Senate?

I'm really hoping that was intentional as it kinda just made my afternoon.

I doubt the democrats would say that they would refuse to consider a republican presidents nominee. I really thought that was inferred [sic] from my response. Maybe not so magic, this new technology?

No, the one word response "Biden" did not imply any such thing. You, at best, implied that Biden's long speech in the well of the Senate, while he was Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was equivalent to one sentence from the Senate Minority leader during a caucus conference for Republicans. That implication is absurd on its face.

As for mind reading, well, it's hard to do much with a one word response from somebody I don't know. Joe Biden is somebody I have watched closely for over 25 years. Not only that, but I have the benefit of hindsight. It's not too difficult to read somebody's mind at a particular point in time when you can observe their actions and statements for two decades afterwards.

ETA: Oh, and just for the record, I am pretty sure the Democrats would be taking a similar stance to Supreme Court appointments in an election year if a Republican were President. I don't even have to speculate. I can just extrapolate from what Biden said in 1992, what Schumer said in 2007, and what Democrats did with dozens upon dozens of judicial appointments that Bush made in his last few years. It's hardly the case that Democrats are less willing to resort to naked partisanship than Republicans. History is pretty clear on that. And it's hard to believe that anybody is more partisan than Harry Reid.

If I could understand what you wrote here, I would probably respond. As it is it makes no sense to me.

This sounds more like elitism than conservatism. Or are they basically the same thing? ;)

Its called reality, liberals are blind of it. Its the sole reason their policies make things worse. They only know how to make more people dependent on government, but hey it gives them a job. ;)

It would be fun watching leftists be ruled by leftists.

Lol

What happens when the world is burning around us? More socialists isn't going to help.
Yes, the world is such disarray because of Obama’s fecklessness and the overall weak military (according to Republicans) under his leadership than I now have to pay $1.41 for gas. The horror!
