Trying to use Senate obstruction of a liberal nominee as a campaign talking point isn't going to work. I suspect Democrats think so, but the typical voter, and especially the typical swing voter, couldn't care less about that sort of thing. It's especially not going to work now that Republicans have Democratic hypocrites (e.g. Biden and Schumer) to use as a shield.

It's a game, and the Republicans are trying to move Obama as far right as possible. Of course, Republicans aren't holding very good cards. Although I think Trump is likely to beat Hillary, he's also about as likely to nominate Howard Stern to fill Scalia's seat as he is a conservative.

According to many conservatives, Anthony Kennedy and even John Roberts are liberals so no, I don't think he will allow any nominee to go through. For fear of blowback from his own party, if anything else. Especially since he already promised otherwise.

And the clear majority of the American people want the Senate to do its job. If you think something Joe Biden said 24 years ago is going to change that, lol.

What the Republicans were afraid of is that Obama would be a successful President. Which, especially in contrast with the absolutely terrible presidency of George W. Bush, would be bad for them politically. That's why they decided, on January 20th, 2009, to go forward with a strategy of total obstruction.

That's so insane to me. I get that political parties exist but when it comes down to nothing but partisan politics, you know your system has failed.

After all this time, you still don't know what "begging the question" means. Yes, I believe the "least productive" (another example of "begging the question") Congress ever is good for America. Preventing bad policy from being enacted is probably better for the country than enacting good policy. It's like you're living in a bubble. Do you have any conception of what conservatism means?

They don't know it. They legitimately think their policies are better for the country. How many people have you met that think the other side is right on something, but they are going with their own party on an issue?
 
Republican politicians believe that their policies are better for the rich people that own them. They couldn't care less about anyone else.

I think you are probably right. Posturing at its ugliest. You'd expect them to learn how to be a little better at this dance.

I wonder about your last point, though: Is the GOP establishment more afraid of a Obama nomination or a Trump nomination? Trump seems to only give lip service to the social conservative issues, at best.

Instead, I have found the national Republicans to be nothing but a bunch of stupid, idiotic, liars who would gladly sell their country down the river in order to get into power and/or stay in power.

Ms Palin thinks she could eliminate the Department of Energy, for example. . . . This was a slightly different election and a heart attack from being president.
