CNN just reported that Antonin Scalia is dead.

I wasn't aware he was sick or anything. Seemed he was just hearing arguments not too long ago.

Though I sometimes disagreed with his politics, I had great respect for his intellect and wit. Oral arguments will be less interesting without his presence.

Scalia dead @ 79

Senior U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.
Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa.
According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

It'll be fun to see what the Republicans do. They can't very well not confirm someone before the election.

Yep.

The cock blocking that is going to go on by the Senate - in the hopes they can wait until after inauguration day in the hopes that a Republican is going to win - is going to be something to watch.

Scalia apparently died of natural causes, something that happens to people when they're 79-years-old. A San Antonio TX news site reports:

As for the Republicans blocking any nomination Obama would make; I think at some point they will have to approve someone. Otherwise the Court will have eight justices and they could conceivably deadlock on every issue.

I too am sorry for his family and anyone who loved him. I cannot help but be relieved that Obama will get to appoint one more SCOTUS justice. This is not hateful politics, just truthful appraisal.

No doubt conspiracies will be coming fast and furious.

It is a huge deal if Obama gets to appoint someone to the Court. So many of the most controversial decisions the Court made in recent years were decided by a one vote majority, 5-4.

I cannot respect him after some of the positions he has given that are just simply unconstitutional

This is the same party that shut down the government before. I honestly don't think that would stop them. I think though that there must be a legal precedent that would prevent such actions. After all, Obama still has ten months (more than ten percent) of his term left.
