Sarah Palin!

She will be a breath of fresh air to people in the work place who are tired of picking up the slack for women taking 3 months off to "bond" with their baby.

Considering the stay at home mom's must fancy having children, they would also admire a women who gave birth to a child with Down Syndrome and all the patience it takes to raise that child.

I'm the parent of a disabled child and I don't admire her at all. My husband took off more time from work after our kids were born than she did. Frankly, the more I think about it, the more disgusted I am.

As has been observed in another thread, he sure has a thing for beauty queens, doesn't he? How does the old dog do it? And does he have a house in Alaska?

I now have nightmare visions of ,if McCain wins, a major international incident happening because he makes a play for Carla Bruni, the Very Hot First Lady Of France, when the French President is here on a state visit.....

Yeah, you're right... women suck...

Perky? Isn't that just a tad sexist?

No, I don't think so. It wasn't intended to be so. I would have said the same thing if they had chosen Jerry Mathers to run as VP, but I just watched her on TV and she was being a little to ra-ra to me.

I hope I'm wrong.

Interesting pick.

She was born in 1964, has a degree in journalism, worked as a sports reporter for two Anchorage TV stations, served as chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, two terms as mayor of Wasilla and two terms on the city council.

I guess we don't have to hear much more about Obama's political inexperience.
Wake up call:

How is her being a governor of a state inexperience at the executive level?

Bill Clinton was a governor of a low rent state, did that make him unable to be a president?

What does the amount of time one suspends their obligation to their job have to do with caring for a disabled child? She saw the child in the morning and in the evening. Even a disabled child is not a hot house plant. I guess if both parents quit their jobs and stayed with their children 24/7 then they automatically become parents of the year.

Back in 1963, Jackie Kennedy left John Jr, then 2, and Caroline with their nanny for three months while she frolicked with Onassis on his yacht. Never heard from the media that she was a callus mother.

She could have aborted the child but chose not to. Disgusting.

Keep them barefoot and pregnent, eh Cicero?

Huh? I am saying she was correct to return to her responsibilities shortly after giving birth. What difference does it make whether the baby had an affliction or not as to the amount of time Palin stayed within the baby's immediate orbit?

Excellent choice, the best choice he could have made.
Not sure about that. The GOP still has a significant number of bible-thumpers who think that women shouldn't leave the house.

She's been on the horizon in conservative blogs for weeks. She's also not tied to Washington and its politics. She's enormously popular in Alaska, and I think she'll be equally popular as VP.
Mostly what we hear from Alaska recently is scandal. Alaska is almost like a different country from the rest of the US. They have completely different concerns and agendas.

She has more executive experience than anyone on either ticket. She has as much foreign policy experience, probably, as Obama, and certainly more budget experience.
The mayor of Mud Lick, Kentucky has more "executive experience" than Obama or McCain. So what? Governers sometimes make good presidents, and sometimes not. Carter, Reagan, Clinton and Dubya were all governors. Did that make them good presidents? You tell me.

As for budget experience, I think being in the US Congress is better on a resume for national budget experience than being the governor of one of the smallest (budget-wise) states in the nation.

I'm energized by the choice, personally. I would NOT be energized with any of the others who could have been chosen.
McCain was wise to choose somebody without a high profile, but he still may have shot himself in the foot with the extreme right. Her stance on abortion is going to be extremely interesting. If she is for it, she loses the ultraconservatives. If she is against it, she loses a large part of the benefit she would gain from her gender.

Carter: nearly ruined it for all governors to be considered for the Executive Office

Reagan: the touchstone for ex-governor as successful president

Clinton: another Southern Gov in the mold of Carter but with lust not just in his heart. He did reform welfare though.

Bush 43: ensured no future President will ever have that name whether they be a former senator, congressman, governor, VP, or cabinet member.

Why would you be disgusted? Is there a magic number of days that a parent has to officially not show up for work in order to prove they love their child?

I feel that she was on the whole an average pick like Biden, but for a different reason.

With Biden, it's just a safe, expected, mediocre pick.

Palin has a lot of big pluses and big negatives, they just happen to balance each other out.

It is going to be hard to get me to believe she was chosen as anything other than a pander attempt to Hillary supporters.

Interesting that she is pro-life though.

And what is with all this talk that she is "moderate" on gay issues? Shut the !@#$ up.

What's left for Obama to do now but substitute Gov. Napolitano for Biden. That way he gets the women and gay vote.

I like Bolo's analysis, although he's off base on the experience question. The Palin pick may neutralize McCain's experience advantage to a degree, but certainly not because she's got too much of it.

From what I can see, the religious right is thrilled with her. Club for Growth gives her a thumbs up, American Conservative Union is enthusiastic. Even grouchy Mark Levin likes her.

More than anything else, the pick has got to have Clinton partisans even more furious with Obama for not picking their gal for #2.

As I noted a month ago, the race dynamics have changed. Obama made a defensive choice, but perhaps not defensive enough. McCain is on offense.

ETA: She also neutralizes Obama's basketball advantage; she played point guard on the state championship girls' team. Nickname: Sarah Barracuda.

Does that include Republican Soccer moms?

According to an informal poll amongst my friends, yes. I live in a highly Republican area. I asked about 15 friends of mine, aged mid-30's to mid-40's only one of whom is a Dem. All of them were disgusted and I didn't even bring up the fact that the kid was disabled. I posted this on a knitting forum I belong to and they have been disgusted too.
